Worst Cronenberg film??

This film basically portrays a bunch of people who have no clue how to drive, but fortunately for them they're all car crash fetishists. Everyone has an extraordinarily high sex drive. Women only speak in a half-whisper and immediately expose one breast when they're aroused. That's basically all I got out of this. It tries too hard to be bizarrely dramatic and just looks trashy and ineffective when stacked up against a masterpiece like Blue Velvet.

Psst:

Blue Velvet is not a Cronenberg film

Let him be, he's rambling.

Well, you buggered that one up!

reply

Yes. Well buggered up!

And actually, it's one of his best films, along with Scanners and Dead Ringers

reply

More like one of his best.

reply

No

reply

His worst would either be Cosmopolis or Map To the Stars.

reply

Nah Maps to the Stars is a nice stab at how fake hollywood is. I like that.
That dragracing film he did may be his worst (still fun though) and Crash is one of my favorites.

Did you ever notice that people who believe in creationism look really un-evolved? - Bill Hicks

reply

Crash, for me, is by far my favourite Cronenberg movie.

Cosmopolis. Eurgh. I literally had to leave the cinema after twenty minutes. Never been so bored in all my life!

reply

Agreed. Cosmopolis is atrocious. Map to the Stars is better, but only slightly. Maybe it's a Robert Pattinson jinx.

By far my favorite Cronenberg film are those starring Viggo Mortensen.

reply

Cronenberg did some really good work with Viggo.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.

reply

Map of the Stars is a guilty pleasure of mine. I find it fascinating.

From Cronenberg, i've only seen:

- Videodrome
- Existenz
- Dead Ringers
- The Dead Zone
- The Fly
- A Dangerous Method
- A History of Violence
- Eastern Promises
- Crash

And my favorites are Eastern Promises (9/10), Dead Ringers (8/10), A History of Violence 8/10. Special mention to A Dangerous Method (7/10).

Least favorite is probably Existenz (4/10) or The Dead Zone (5/10) as for now.

People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs

reply

Gee, I thought The Dead Zone was pretty good.(8/10).

reply

So you didn't understand those movies? That's a shame. But "children of a lesser God" and all, I get it.

reply

Cronenberg has made some great movies, like A History of Violence and Eastern Promises, but this wasn't one of them. Too much weird dialogue, too many things that didn't make sense. So Spader's character had an accident, and just happened to meet another person with a car crash fetish. Everyone's making out with everyone else, not much else is happening here that I could tell. When he says "Maybe next time" to his wife at the end, did he mean "Maybe next time you'll get killed? How erotic!"?? lol
