I feel sorry for Staff Sergeant John Monfriez

Aka Lou Diamond Phillips, he was a good solder until that one mistake he did by shooting at his superior officer. If you was in his place ,what would you have done if she said she would report you for mutiny and wounding her?

I felt sorry for his character BUT I don't agree that he was a good soldier. They say courage isn't a question of whether you are scared or not, it's what you do when you are scared. And he reacted to just about every situation in the movie with cowardice; wanting to pull back from the tank battle, wanting to leave Rady, turning to mutiny, leaving Walden to die for fear of reprisal and finally suicide when confronted with his lies.

He wasn't a monster. He displayed strong remorse before his suicide. He indirectly states that he feels "Very bad". He just made really bad decisions with punishing consequences. Therefore I can understand how the OP feels sorry for him.
