The reason this movie flopped?

Broderick in the cast. He should've been the brother that got shot. Stiller playing his role would've really helped the reviews of this film.

Two reasons as far as I am concerned, why at the time The Cable Guy was considered a 'flop';
As mentioned people, (including my 15yr old self) were expecting a typical Jim Carrey style light hearted comedy. It isn't.

Also, the popularity is increasing right now as people start re-watching it, however it is annoying to me that in the current trend of talking this film up, people are completely ignoring the fact that the film falls apart in the last 30 mins. Yes the opening hour is amazing - and hysterical but the final third pails in comparison.

I'm sorry, I wasn't aware this is the Internet BOOK Database.

No I disagree, I love the final third.

I like Ferris Bueller as much as anyone, but Steven was bland AF. I also feel this movie would have needed to be saturated in referential humor to work and it only went that route halfway through.

It just wasn't that good a movie.
