The reason why they won't Sailorstars in America...

I read an article on a website giving the reason they won't show Sailorstars in America. It said that because it had more adult situations than the other seasons. And the main reason was the Starlights. The president of DiC (the company that shows American Sailormoon) says that they show transexual stuff when they transform and they're disgused as boys so he thinks they shouldn't show that in front of childern.

Now that really pisses me off because about the adult situations, they can be EASILY edited. And as for the "transexual" stuff, that really dosen't matter. Cartoons these days have cussing, killing with gore, and they show plenty men and women looking like their opposite sex. But really, I think that the people who opposed to showing Sailorstars for those stupid reasons, should really get a smack in the face.

The information source: I forgot what the website was. I think it was LEOLI or something like that. All I can remember it was purple... ^^

I think they should dub it and bring it over here but honestly I agree that Sailor stars isn't suitable for children and shouldn't be marketed toward them. Sailor Moon was more aimed toward teenage girls whereas in america they wanted it for little girls. And given the difference in culture a lot of the subjects in the last season would not be welcome with open arms. I wouldn't want to see it butchered so it could be on Tv anyways.

Many more things than just the Starlights would be edited out. In the second-to-last episode of the first season the Sailor Soldiers were all killed and DiC cut that out, do you really think they'd show Galaxia killing them by taking their Star Seeds? How difficult do you think that'd make the last few episodes of Stars if the Senshi deaths were cut out? How would they explain their absense?

They'll never translate Sailor StarS because most people in charge of censorship in movies/shows are completely ignorant. However after seeing Sailor Moon in English and in Japanese it is clear that the Japanese versions are always superior. I hate the way they translated the show and more or less made it a silly little kids show which is not the feeling you get from watching it in Japanese. While it would be nice to not have to read subtitles...people in this country are too narrow minded and always looking for a reason to say something is politically incorrect, hell, there was a time when crazy tv people were trying to show that Spongebob is gay and has gay references. It doesn't, and even if it did, why would that matter? And besides it's a good thing Dic did not get their hands on this series because of a post I read on another board about the english translations of the first sailor moon series 'Dic why do you have to destroy everything you touch?' or something along those lines ^_^

my suggestion? learn to read faster or learn Japanese. It won't hurt any.

I think the situation has a lot of stuff involved, too. I believe I did read somewhere that the rights to the Sailor Moon Anime are not being sold anymore from Toei for distribution anywhere. That would have a lot to do with it. Also, I can understand about the worries people would have concerning the Starlights. Here, in North America, Sailor Moon was marketed as a children's cartoon, not as an adult anime, by DiC, when it first aired. It continued to be marketed as a chuldren's cartoon throughout the whole of the series. Stars is a very mature entry into the series. I think it could potentially be pulled off, except for the Starlights. They are so masculine in human form, and then so obviously female in true senshi form, that there is simply no other way to explain the transformation.

Now, let's not even bring up the question of sexuality here. Just think how complicated the whole situation is for adults that have watched this series. :p Can you imagine how confusing it would be to American children? I think that concern is high, too.
