This show is wonderful and heightens the imagination

I was happy to rediscover this show on DVD at my local Dollar General about two years ago. My fiance and me took our time and slowly watched the show one or two episodes every few weeks, sometimes longer sometimes short time span, we finally watched it all and I must say it was entertaining : )

This show use to come on early morning Mon-Fri two episodes backtoback and I was able to watch one full episode while getting ready for school and never could finish the second one before I had to leave. My dad was still alive at this time and life was different. I know im conflating the past with this show but its an old cartoon! And I always felt like I needed some finality to the show I enjoyed, as one day it stopped playing and I never saw its ending. So it was so rewarding to be able to watch this show in its entirety and see it had a real ending : )

The artwork of the series is akin to wild thornberrys but it was before wild thornberrys time. Also the animals in jumanji have a twisted bend to them and look genuinely creepy! The voice acting was superb, and even features Tim Curry as a trickster trader known as Slick (with him claiming a different first name and middle initial everytime we meet him xD). such a charming and fun show : )

The villains on Jumanji are expanded upon and the most interesting one to me was Ipson, a mad scientist inventor who built a lab complex deep within the Jungle. We also discover tribes and people within Jumanji who are not evil and sometimes help out Alan, Judy, and Peter. And there are people other than Alan who also have been trapped within the game. Neighbors, Aunt Nora, and classmates sometimes got pulled into the game with them!

There was one episode where a mean old lady neighbor was mistreating Judy and Peter and she got pulled into the game when they played. I discussed with my fiance what she thought would happen this episode and I thought it would go like this: Mean old lady is how she is because she lost her husband but turns out he got pulled into Jumanji playing the game many years ago and they are brought back together and clue is solved and the old lady changes her ways after they leave the game. But they subverted the heck out of expectations! The mean old lady gets meaner and even steals a powerful spellbook that only a female can use and becomes The Sorceror of Jumanji! She bascially tries to kill Alan, Judy and Peter and complete some spell to make her immortal. Judy saves the day as since only a female can use the book she steals it from the hag and uses spells to undo the hags evil. When they return home to Brantford the mean old lady remains ugly to them and doresnt change her ways or learn anything xD honestly there are people in real life that are just mean and ugly never changing so it was interesting that they didnt go the safe moral learned a lesson route.

This is a show where with each season it seemed to be getting better and better! But im happy with the 40 episodes we got and also it does have a real ending to the show no cliffhanger!

Not sure how long this link will take you to the DVD available but here you go! Its worth owning!
