Big fan of Ballykissangel - at least the first three series. I watched series four but it had lost its spark and I couldn't bring myself to watch five and six. Just too many cast changes, I guess. It's tough when a show loses lead characters, for whatever reasons. Sometimes the show survives, sometimes they just can't overcome the losses.

shareAgreed. Assumpta's death, coming when it did, was too much. There was no time to revel in the acknowledgement of their feelings for one another. Yes, it was a very dramatic event, but there was no culmination (not sure if that's the right word) of their relationship - instead, they were ripped apart and I, as a viewer, felt cheated. Although I wanted to move on, as we must in life, there just wasn't any other story line in the series that could fill the void. I tried with series four, but couldn't bring myself to watch the last two series. I can't help it - I like a happy ending - real life is filled with enough disappointment that I prefer hope and optimism in my escapism.

As do I, GlenEllyn, and I'll tell you why I finished the series. I watched this in 1995 when I didn't have access to anything other than my local library which, though small, had a large collection of foreign and British TV shows and movies on DVD, and I devoured all of them They had a sale to get rid of the older ones about 2 years after and someone had hit the sale early and bought all of the best ones.
So, I'm glad I got to see BallyKiss Angel, and quite a few more of the lesser known series such as The Duchess of Duke Street, Father Ted, The Vicar of Dibley, and Rosemary & Thyme. I won't list them all.
There is one though, I can't remember the title which starred Felicity Kendal about having a farm in her backyad with her husband, that I'd love to watch again.
Feel free to list as many as you want! I'm always looking for something new - well, new to me. I rely on my local library for my entertainment because I don't have cable TV nor over-the-air TV because I live just a bit too far away to capture the signal. But I've learned to deal with it, I'm OK with it, and it's opened another world to me.

I didn't have either for sooo many years and very adept at doing without when I must. Circumstances/situations beyond my control (or anyone's) could put me right back and it wouldn't bother me, so in the meantime I've learned to live frugally just in case. Reading and writing letters & journaling are my first loves regardless.

The library has been my source of entertainment for years now. It's almost unbelievable what's available, and if my local library system doesn't have it, we have access to Inter-Library Loan where I've been able to borrow materials from as far away as the neighboring state - for free (well, aside from the taxes we pay). Ah, the beauty of the internet: online library catalogs, the ability to find and request what you want, have it sent to your local branch, and notification via email when it's ready for pick-up. I love it.
