Not only am I in love with Jack Callaghan

… but I am in love with the movie.

I’m kicking myself for watching this movie just recently. I was quite young when this movie was first released but that is not an excuse for overseeing this movie for so long. I am so glad I watched it. And I'm going to keep watching it over and over...

I am a sucker for romantic comedies and a lot of them are disappointing. It’s very rare to fall in love with a movie, and ‘while you were sleeping’ has that effect on me.

The key to the Lucy and Jack’s romance is chemistry, and boy did they have chemistry.

The element to a great story, whether it is reading or watching is to show not tell. And that's what exactly what it was. The looks that you see Jack and Lucy give each other, their body language, the deep conversations they have, the way he describes her, and how she’s head over heels for him. The tension they create when put together wasn’t anything sexual; it was something much, much deeper. Something that will last a lifetime.

The other key factors to this movie are the Callaghans and Saul, and everyone else. They bring out the comedy side to the movie. They are a hilarious bunch, and are not a tad annoying, not even the real fiancée or Peter; just really, really funny and fun to be with.

Put two and two together, and they have formulated an almost perfect Romantic Comedy. (I am going to say almost, because nothing in this world is perfect)

Now Bill Pullman—that’s a different topic! He’s got this look that makes you swoon. He was not drop dead gorgeous or hot, but no doubt he was (I’m going to say was because I’m talking about Bill 20 years ago) a very good-looking man, cute even. He's got what [some] gorgeous actors don’t have — a compelling attractiveness that draws you in as soon as you lay eyes on him. ie. Lake Placid, Independence Day (the most attractive American President ever…), Spaceballs, Zero Effect… not to mention his sexy voice and gorgeous hair...

Interesting how this movie only got a 6.6. It definitely deserves better.

I could literally watch this movie over and over and never ever get tired of it. I love it so much. If only all Rom Coms were as good as this one. I love Jack Callaghan so much. I want to find a guy like him.

Once upon a time there was a magical place where it never rained. The end.

Oh, me too!!! I think I have seen it about 3 or 4 times now. I had to make myself stop and say there are other things I have to watch as well! I've made a promise to myself to watch it at least once a year--during the Christmas period.

I hear ya about finding a guy like Jack...

I know, the rating seems awfully low for such a cute, great movie.

They definitely don't make rom-coms like While You Were Sleeping anymore:( And dreamy characters like Jack!!! I love watching this movie every Christmas and whenever I need a good rom-com to lift my mood....

I agree with all of this 100%. I always tell people I'm in love with 90s era Bill Pullman! I looked him up awhile back and found out he's three years older than my dad, but I can't help myself. The way he looks at Lucy in this movie is totally swoonworthy, and that HAIR! lol I love it too. Hopefully I can find my own Bill Pullman in this world...but he's set the bar pretty high!

Yep, massive chemistry, and I love Jack too -- she got the right brother!

I saw this in theaters back in the day, and it remains a fond re-watch any time it comes up on TV. Like tonight!

OMG I absolutely love While You Where Sleeping my favourite Chick Flick by far.. Its sooo sweet and innocent and I just watched it for the 4th time tonight .. Just a week ago I was talkin about Sandra Bullock with my mum and then I was like I feel like Watching WYWS so I got it from the library again.
And Jack in this OMG ... Just before we watched WYWS, we watched sleepless in seatle (again) which Bill Pullman is also in but its funny you dont notice him much in it and in my opinion he actuaklly looks younger in WYWS..

I agree with all of you. I'm streaming it right now. I can't believe this movie is more than 20 years old. I've seen it at least 50 times. I had the VHS first then got the DVD. I DVR it, stream it, watch it when they play it during the holidays. Agree so much about the chemistry between Bill and Sandra. It's too bad they didn't team up again.

IMO, this is the rom com gold standard. It doesn't get any better than this. People mock me because I know all the lines. Lol

Also the chapel scene I think is my favorite movie scene of all time.

Marbleslove ...

I like your signature reference to Holes ...
Cute.

Yeh - I cannot understand why this movie doesn't rate as a 9 or 10.To me, it goes to show the problem with the movie rating system.

And Bill Pullman - easily one of the most under-rates across around. As someone said here - he's not the stereo-type georgeous male lead - and that is the very appeal - he is down-to-earth good-looking like a guy you would see or know in your own town - in addition to looks, he just seems to be a person who is not really acting. You feel like he is real all the time.
