Original or Remake?

Which do you like better? I'm usually pretty purist when it comes to movies and almost always would say original over remake, however I think I like the remake better in this case. I know I'm bound to get a biased response asking on this board vs. asking it on the original board, but I just wanted to see what people thought.

"I thought it was sad at first, but now, I like it..."

Original, it was more creepy.

However, the remake was good.

I'm a million different things, and not a one you know.

The remake wasn't the best mvoie I've seen and truth be told if you have encountered my Ghosts of Mars review I state that this was one of the nails int he coffin for Caprenter leaidng up to Ghosts, BUT I did enjoy this one more than the original. Why?

-It felt more scifi-ish.

-Better acting, Kristie Alley did a good job.

-It gave more development to the children and made them more interesting. I liked the idea of one of them not quite following their intentions and has second thoughts.

-The climax was a bit better.

-Good muscial score.

-Had a little more edge to it.

Haven't you heard? Nobody can have fun at the movies anymore...

yeah but this wasn't developed nearly enough.

the problem with the remake is that it basically followed the idea of the original, focussed a little more on the children, but never really did anything with it. the idea is just too cheesy to play as straight horror.

this is how the remake could have been improved IMO:

1)more focus on the kids growing up, not just making them seem like pure evil from the very beginning and setting the adults up for certain death like a cheesy slasher

2)the conflicts between emotion/reason, compassion/survival etc. the most interesting scenes in the film were not the 'death scenes'(which were laughable), but the psychological games/strategies, and the 'mental tug-of-war' between Reeves and his 'daughter'. the more 'philosophical themes' should have taken centre stage, without the trite symbolism(i.e brick walls).

the story had amazing potential to be re-imagined as intellectual horror IMO.

Carpenter blew it.

Original.Enjoyed remake on first watch, but c'mon............there is some really bad acting in there. Dialogue too :( Carpenter was really on a roll with crap movies around this time (Escape from LA anyone?)

The original by far. I'm surprised at how many people picked the remake. I love John Carpenter, but this is one of his lesser films. The original had tremendous suspense and stronger performances, but the remake just seems choppy to me, and Christopher Reeve and Kirstie Alley seem miscast.

I definitely prefer the original.

Maturity. The very staple of the IMDb message boards.

Remake by a mile, better almost in every aspect. It's also a lot more intellectual film, the original was incredibly dumb and childish. Remake doesn't try to pose as a scary horror film in a visceral visual way, but more as a cerebral expolaration of Wyndham's themes.

i remember seeing the original on tcm, but didn't focus too much on it, but this i can give an opinion about, alote of the murders was too "jason" or what's it called style, knowing it's gonna happen, one murder after another.. i thought this was a pretty small and unknown tv-movie, aired in the middle of the night here. but linda koslowski kept me hooked, and i'm glad - spoiler - she was one of the few, if not the only, who made it to the end, i think i've seen alote of stories quite similar to this, on series too.

sleeping with the enemy,
by mind the only one to trust is me,
day and night,
i'm being fed these lies,
sleeping with the enemy,
profets being made,
behind the facade,
no love in the air,
no unity is shared,
here day and night,
with the ugly truth in mind,
nothing sacred, nothing real,
sleeping with the enemy.

remake is way better

I normally loathe remakes but in this case, as much as I like the original, the '95 version is even better. I've seen the original a few times but I watch this one once every year or two.
