Were the filmakers big fans of Planes Trains and Automobiles or what?
Not only is the film a dumbed down version of it but the credits used in Tommy Boy are the exact same font as those used in PT&A.
Love the movie though!

Oh yeah, it was definitely a big influence. Back in the 90's I remember watching a joint interview with Farley and Spade, and they were talking about the 'annoying fat guy / uptight skinny guy roadtrip movie', and they mentioned PT&A specifically.
shareI have never watched PT&A but I loved Tommy Boy, so maybe I will give it a chance.. thanks!
shareYou really should. It's one of the most hilarious, and also most touching films ever made. You're in for a treat.
AND, there are a thousand classic Christmas movies out there to watch with family at Christmas time. But PT&A is the only classic Thanksgiving movie I can think of.
I didn’t even know it was a Thanksgiving movie!! I will watch it tomorrow evening! I’m American, but have lived in the UK for almost 13 years, so I love films like that!! I can not wait to watch it!! Thank you!! I’ll let you know how it goes, but I love the cast so I’m sure I’ll love it! Thank you!! ❤️
