A wery underated movie
Anyone seen this one. It's one of the best Philip K. Dick movies out there, much better than The Imposter, and much more faithfull than say, Total Recall.

sharethis was the lamest movie my friends and i ever saw. i put it right up there with 'the amazing panda adventure' and 'robin hood in tights.' the script? sucked. the 'special' effects? sucked. the acting? sucked. i can't believe anyone would be surprised that the annoying kid was a robot. moreover, i can't believe this stinkin' movie is getting over 5 stars from you folks. i have serious concerns about you all. seriously. very seriously. lord help you all. and lord help me if i ever get movie reviews from y'all. oh, did i mention this was the worst movie ever made? and for those who haven't seen it, the teddy bear is a robot too. a teddy bear of death!!! hahahahahahahahahaha!!!! there, i did you a favor. please burn this film. thank you.
shareI totally disagree.
shareYou did not get the movie and thats to bad, but its your loss.
It is an excellent movie. The FX are not to bad, better than much of the CG crap you get today. But you must take time to think and use your brain a little, because the story have more layers than you think..
i don't know if it has already been said, but i think the movie would have been far better, and could be called a masterpiece if paul verhoeven had made it. I love the landscapes, i like the special effects (no matter what you say!) but it lacks of something. It doesn't match total recall in any way, but i have the unpleasant feeling that it could have been much better. too bad!

Men in Tights was hilarious and this movie wasn't bad at all. You obviously don't understand either genre.
shareDo you still feel the same?
I was unaware of this movie, and just recorded it since it sounded potentially cool.
There's no way it's one of the worst movies of all time though. Have you ever seen the type of movies that are on MST3K?
This movie was a lot better than I was expecting.
I can agree with the complaints about the fast love story, but you must also remember she is the only woman around. On top of that he found her attractive and he also had lost just about everyone. She already undressed in front of him almost immediately - which may have should have tipped him off though.
2001 I watched the movie the first time and I loved it so much.
Today I saw the movie on dvd by chance and I had enough money so I
bought it.
I always wanted to have it on dvd now I have.
I just love the atmospehere of the movie and what they have done
out of the low buget.
It will get a place of honour in my dvd collection.
I hadn't seen Screamers in probably a good 9 years. Back when I first saw it I thought it was pretty lame (Heck I was 11). But I just saw it again last night and found it to be a lot better than I remembered. I actually had bought it used on VHS (With Spanish subtitles - woo!) just because, but now I'd like to get it on DVD. Good times.
shareDefinitely an above average thriller, but nowhere near as good as some of the movies that people have trashed in this thread. I mean....seriously....people are trashing Minority Report, Total Recall, and the Matrix? What the hell? All three of those deserve to be classics (although you have to "get" the ending of Minority Report to agree on that one). The atmosphere was good, and the acting from Weller was enjoyable....but people are saying the effects were better than some things being made today? Wow....y'all need to get your eyes checked. As far as the concept goes...the core aspect of the plot that made it truly interesting was not original. For a true original masterpiece that has some similar elements to this, check out The Thing (the 1980's version) with Kurt Russell. Now THAT's a top 10 title for me. I know that "Second Variety" was published in 1953, but I'm pretty certain that the story The Thing is based on was published far earlier than that.

yes, it is underated. Good film and good entertainment, I didnt knew it...
shareI like this movie, the characters had depth, and it was very true to Dick. The only thing I didn't like was the "machine learning to love" crap at the end, I thought that was a bit trite. The CGI looks like it was done with quake or something, I remember reading a few years ago about movie makers using the quake II engine to do animation, does anyone know if this is true?
shareI absolutely loved the first half of this movie, the atmosphere was brilliant. But you can mark a definite turn for the worse right after the nuclear blast on the bunker. The story started to get a bit muddled and became a lot cornier and fake in my opinion.
shareHow can you call the 1980's The Thing original? Its a remake......
But yah, this movie IS very underrated.
*beep* the Academy
Nope, the 1980's The Thing is actualy a more faithful adaption of the book, the original taking many liberties to make it more presentable to the horror movie c-list.

Please do not take this as a flame, but how is this faithful to the short story?
In the story, he does not find out that Tasso is one of the Varieties till he has packed her off to the moon, and he is sitting against a rock waiting to be killed. The different varieties come over the rise in slow waves (the little boy with the Teddy, the injured soldier), and when he sees scores of Tassos, he realises that he has just sent one off to the only place where humanity still resides and has no way of warning them.
It was a hideously bleak ending, and brillient. It was the ending of the film alone that ruined it for me. Otherwise quite enjoyable.
Please please PLEASE correct me if I have remembered this totally wrong.
