Brand new Sailor Moon anime due in 2013 - Sailor Moon (1995) Discussion

Whoa...this sounds too good to be true, to me at least. Secretly, I kinda always had a hunch that they might remake Sailor Moon at a certain point in time, maybe as a more faithful adaptation of the manga, kinda like Hellsing Ultimate.

But until two or three other sources sonfirm this news, I am skeptical. If you hear any new info about this, post it here.

News is still fresh and there's a lot not known, but Naoko apparently had come out and said a few words about it (not sure of the source, I've just seen this on livejournal and tumblr):

Her words are kinda vague, I am not sure what she is refering to - is this "new anime" based on Sailor Moon or some of her other manga works? When these characters are "brought back", is it a new show or the old in maybe 3D?

Forgive me for being so skeptical, but this seems almost too good to be true. I just don't want to get my hopes up just to later hear it was just a misunderstanding or what not. I hope more details and sources will confirm what you allege. But if it is true, then it is easily - by far - the most amazing news of the whole year.

This is what is known so far:

- It was announced at the live event for Sailor Moon's anniversary
- The new series is not a rebroadcast of the original
- It will be a series more closely related to the manga
- The original voices for Usagi and Mamoru would like to reprise their roles
- Momoiro Clover Z will be doing the opening and closing theme songs
- It will be streamed worldwide
- It will be targeted at older fans of the original series
- It is aiming to be released in the summer of next year

I am sure more news will pop up after today/soon.

They are going all out for the 20th in Japan not only is there going to be a new anime series they are re-releasing the manga along with Sailor V in a 10 volume box set and the DVD of the original series in a memorial DVD and more merchandise.

I am really excited too bad its so far off its certainly something to look forward to. I love Sailor moon but sometimes I get depressed because of how dated it looks so this is really awesome to hear its getting revamped. I hope the animation isn't too different though I was so accustomed to the original if its gonna be closer to the manga I assume the art style will be similar. Either way I love that the manga got rereleased and its probably a sure thing that we will get a dub eventually right?

I hope that it also leads to the US getting the original anime back. Either way, this is so awesome!! I'm looking forward to more Sailor Jupiter!!!

i want in this season, for them to show more of the 30th century tokyo, chibiusa as a 16 year old , along with original friends and queen, new characters etc. definitely more special powers, higher transformations. always good quality eps. yeah so far thats what i want to see. hehe.

Now that you mention it, it would be cool to see a mini spinoff series of Chibi-Usa's adventures as Sailor Moon as a teenager in 30th century tokyo. She could be fighting evil by moonlight & winning love by daylight just like her mom did at that age ;). For her supporting cast I'd like to see: the Sailor Amazoness Quartet, Sailor Saturn, her friends Melissa & Kelly from R & SuperS, and her own Tuxedo Mask in Helios .

Oh wow, this is awsome! I hope I get to see it. I still remember live action sailor Moon and how you can no longer find that online and the computer I got it on got fried.

If it hits canada I will get cable tv ONLY to see it. :)

I somehow had a hunch that something might happen, but was skeptical nonetheless. As we all know, we were all surprised when in 2002 they announced PGSM for 2003, almost exactly in tune with the 10th anniversary of the anime, but we all probably thought: "You better believe it!"

The same will (hopefully) happen now. I am still careful until we hear the news that they started animating the first scenes of this new anime, but if it will happen they way they announced, it is going to be fantastic. I am usually against remakes, but this is one exception to the rule. They best way to do this new anime, is to do it close to the manga or to invent new adventures for the protagonists.

yeah good thing that they re doing it for next year. besides 30th century tokyo, i think that finally seeing sailor cosmos, among other stuff that wasn't put in the stars , new adventures, transformations and more than 1 special attack per character is good showing progress of stronger impact like an rpg :)

Personally, I believe the reboot version would probably be more closer to the original manga, much like the reboots of "Fullmetal Alchemist" and "Hunter x Hunter".

It says it is the first image of the new 2013 anime. It looks interesting enough, almost CGI like, and includes three sailor senshi in it. Maybe it's just someone's fanfiction, but it is nice to tickle our attention until the premiere hits us.

Looks good...but I am still really nervous about this "revamp". I would have been ok with a re-release of the original anime with cleaned up picture quality and improved dubbing...

Nope. And that worries me. I hope the new 2013 anime was not just a misunderstanding, but a real project. Maybe they are just keeping it top secret to raise the interest of fans.

But certainly, if they want to make first episodes in eight months, they better start writing the scripts now.

Oh no....I hope this wasn't all false.

I have been a SM fan since I was 5....nearly 20 years later, and I was soooo excited to discover they were bringing it back. I figured since it was announced in July, me checking for updates in November there would be SOME new news....but now that I'm seeing there's been nothing.....I'm worried.
