It's very strange, I really, really liked Braveheart, it wasn't a cliche adventure tale like it could've been, there was plenty of gritty realism, and it didn't end in a cliche total victory for Mel Gibson. However, I think Rob Roy is far superior. The fights were much more excited and far more realistic, Liam Neeson and especially Tim Roth were outstanding, Jessica Lange and John Hurt gave great supporting performances, beautiful scenes, and a much more believable plot. Again, Braveheart was an excellent piece of work, I give it 8/10, but Rob Roy is easily a 9/10 or maybe higher. Looking back on that year I'm surprised Braveheart won Best Picture.
