This thread made me smile. As a proud Scot myself, I notice the accent changes, but maybe because my ear is trained on the difference between Scottish and Irish accents. It makes no difference to me; we're very closely linked through the Celtic connection. Mel Gibson portrayed William Wallace and was slaughtered by many Scots because of his poor accent, whereas personally I think he did not a bad job with it. Worse examples? Kevin Costner playing Robin Hood with an American accent. I'm not dissing the accent, but RH was meant to be English...
Someone voiced my thoughts about Jessica's role. In the 1700s, up in the Highlands and Islands in particular, where you're out in the wilderness, there would be no beauty regime like we know today. SuperDrug weren't open to jump down and pick up the latest two-for-one makeup deals I think her look fitted in exceptionally well with the time period the movie was set in.
On another note, Goddamn does Tim Roth carry off the evil little weasel role to perfection!!! Couldn't stand his character, but he worked wonders with it and took it to unknown territory. The whole film was superb in my book, and that's coming from a Scot
