How can a beautiful film be made by a monster?

that is the overall tragedy of this film for me. it has touched so many lives and left so many people in tears and with a sense of sacred holiness (i don't know how else to describe it) for the beauty that can be found within it -- and yet it was made by someone who sexually preyed upon children.

i will never rent this movie or buy it, because i do not want any money to go to victor salva. perhaps if there was a guarantee, in the future, that 100% of profits would go to benefit victims of sexual abuse... then maybe i would feel better about allowing my children or young family members to view this film.

I, like Nathan Winters, who made the allegations during the making of Clownhouse, was a victim of a sexual predator. And, that was the reason of my initial reluctance on seeing this film. But, I overcame that aversion and found that it is a well-made film, with some solid acting by Sean Patrick Flannery. I can identify with the character because I, too, was perceived as different during my teenage years, and as a result, treated with distain by my peers as though I was a freak.

Despite WHO directed this, I will continue to recommend the film because of it's subject matter. As for the director, he should pay for his crimes (If he hasn't). As for boycotting his work, I can't in this film's case, because that would be like boycotting classics like "A Streetcar Named Desire," or "On The Waterfront," because they were directed by Elia Kazan (Who was vilified for naming names during that awful McCarthy/Communist Witch-hunt period).

In fact, my now-20-year-old godson, who was also a victim of a child molester, and well-aware of the director's crimes (As I explained it to him when he was 15), liked the film, as he too, could identify with the main character.

I loved this movie, and only since watching it learned of the filmmaker's criminal history, which seems to have included admitting his guilt and serving his prison time. Is he a monster or did a flawed man do something monstrous? Are those two things the same? Key question: Does anyone have information that he has re-offended in the 20+ years since then?

I'm guessing then people do not support Roman Polanski?

OMG! I was just watching this wonderful film & came to the part of the scene where Powder was marveling at the colored skin of the other boy in the bathroom. I understood the intention of that particular scene but the way it was filmed made me think that a woman or homosexual did it (because the camera lovingly caresses the boy's body). So I come here & see this thread & shocked because I never knew or heard about the controversial director.

I have a hard time wrapping my head on what he did. I check his filmography & though I haven't seen Clownhouse, I am a big fan of a few of his films:

-Powder
-Jeepers Creepers
-Peaceful Warrior

These films (even the horror film) have wonderfully sympathetic characters, characters that you can empathize with, very introspective view of them. How can he have written such a sensitive character like Powder? It seems he is able to empathize with the youth & reveal them intimately & honesty to his audience. So, if he is able to understand or sympathize with a young person's mind/emotion, how then can he willingly abuse it? Very shocking discovery & a truly puzzling man.

You could ask yourself the same question if you see any movie by Woody Allen or Roman Polanski.

Don't let anyone ever make you feel like you don't deserve what you want.

I don't like Allen or his films actually.

He's a beautiful hu-man being, our past, even things we did a second a ago don't define us, how tragic it would be if it did, that's the reason why Karma is selfçreated by our consciousness lost in the past, be it self destructive feelings of regret or guilt, what one man did in the past is no longer done by the man at this moment. People are not victims of their past if they can live in the now. Time to change the way we live, otherwise we can never change, when the truth is we do change and can change and reprogram our own DNA. Talk about change now. We have tremendous powers and potentials.
