Wow, can't believe people are complaining about the Opus being bad

If it were some amazing masterpiece, then he'd be Bach or John Williams!

He's a high school music teacher who was never good enough to make it to the big leagues. Why on earth would you expect the music he produces to be amazing or masterful!?!? The fact that his opus is only subpar is an important aspect of the character.

Im not sure why they think its bad. Personally movie or not I think its a decent piece of music....And considering that its being heard for the first time performed by kids and likely hobbyists...its not as if there was time for Mr. Holland to change certain parts.

It wasn't a bad piece at all. He'd probably be able use the performance to gauge the rough parts and make improvements

I think some people mistake what the main theme of Mr. Holland's Opus is.
What I took it to mean. His Opus was not about the failed attempt at writing a masterwork. He thought it was, but it wasn't.
His opus was how he reached out to his students and made THEM better.
Similar to Dead Poet's Society.
