I love this movie. Nick Cage was great as Little Junior. The cast is also outstanding. Give Kiss Of Death a chance.

Geez! What happened to all the people who rather overrated e.g. Out of Sight?
Anyway, I gave this one 8/10 ... not because I am generous with voting points,
but although I am usually not -- and because I think Kiss of Death deserved it.
This movie was one of David Caruso first after leaving NYPD Blue. He left with a lot of negative press. That might of hurt the films marketing. That's my best guess.

Actually, Caruso did get plenty of press when he left NYPD Blue. Which meant full page articles on this movie (with everyone waiting to see whether his movie career would be successful). It got plenty of publicity, but the critics weren't kind and the public ignored the movie altogether.
I would say that the movie failed in spite of the publicity, not because of it.
But honestly, I thought it was very good.
Funny you should mention Out of Sight. I find the amount of praise heaped on that film disgusting. What a piece of trash.
Kiss of Death is just a genuine and gritty look at crime and consequences.
its a great move.. i gave it an 8.. i shouldve given it a 10 to balance the rating but i like to be honest about my votes.. unlike the people who have never seen it that give it a 1.. they dont think certain movies can be good, and its sad because i enjoyed it.. and thats all that matters

I loved this movie and was astounded by its low score. I have voted on 1500+ movies here on IMDB and have never been more than 1.5 pts away from the normal average. I gave this movie a 9 ( i would have 8.5 but you cant go to 1/2) and was out by 3 at the time.
I think Carusso was good. Cage was brilliant, yet it got absolutley panged by the critics. I cant undertand why as it was a brilliant movie.
I am glad there are people out there that appreciate the movie.

And what about Cage, can anyone say over the top? The asthma pump was classic, just don't put a fork in his mouth. Hahahahahahaha!

It is low rated because it's a snoozer. I didn't believe most of the characters or situations, it's just a crime thriller by the numbers. Caruso proves he didn't have the charisma to become a big screen star, Cage overacts ridiculously (he's based his career on doing just that) and most of the characters are cardboard/one dimensional. The only good thing about this movie was killed after the first 35 minutes: Michael Rapaport. He always manages to light up any movie he's in; he's a true natural, you will never catch him "acting".
shareI'm with kiko, this is crime by the numbers and not even much of a thriller. The dialogue tended towards trite and the gift-wrapped ending was a bit too cute.
However, I thought David Caruso mostly underplayed his performance nicely, but perhaps it was just that Nicolas Cage's embarrrassing overacting made him look good by comparison. Samuel L. Jackson's talent was almost wasted. I too liked Michael Rapaport's performance and thought Stanley Tucci was effective in his role.
I enjoyed Out of Sight, mainly because it seemed to be quite tongue in cheek, whereas Kiss of Death was, I assume, meant to be taken seriously.
