Stallone certainly looked the part

if it was more faithful to the comics and had a decent script, movie could have been better.

I'm not familiar with the comics... but I wish Schneider wasn't in the movie.

Also I disliked the clone storyline and him getting framed.

Wish they had done a straight adventure/mission instead of him getting framed and going to jail, etc...

But I do like Sly more as the character instead of Urban... but they both did great jobs!

Him being framed and going to jail was probably done to make Judge Dredd an easier sell than a fascist future cop. But framing him for murder I think wasted great opportunity and killed the tension, it just turned into a generic Stallone movie.

Helmeted Dredd start to finish in the lead in a Hollywood production was never gonna happen anyway, perhaps a movie where Dredd is a background character in a ensemble cast would've been more in line with fans' expectations I don't know.

reply

agreed. but it was an era of dumb big action and sticking to the "source material" wasn't exactly a thing

reply

I remember there being quite a few comic/tv series film adaptations in the 90s that were very source material-accurate... This is one of the rare few that isn't.

reply

This type of movie was still in it's infancy... studios/directors did not know how to handle this material for at least another decade.

reply

I've always believed this to be true.
Hollywood was still figuring it out.
