and he can't even write a decent film? Even the The X-Files episode 'First Person Shooter' was bad.
Goes to show not everyone can transition from writing books to screenplays even if its their own story or genre.
His stuff hasn't translated very well to the screen, but his X-Files episode "Kill Switch" was pretty good.

Gibson certainly created some cool concepts but as far as his storytelling goes... it's mediocre and vastly overrated. Sometimes he comes off as pretentious all because he pioneered the unique concept of cyberpunk. However, other people have taken his concepts and made it better than he ever could.
And truthfully, Philip K. Dick was already ahead of William Gibson with 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?'
Johnny Mnemonic and New Rose Hotel are lousy films.
William Gibson is especially annoying on Twitter with his left-wing, liberal mindset and countless retweets that constantly contradict one another and establish double-standards.
^Based on that last line, I'll give him even more props for this movie. :)

No? William Gibson writes science fiction novels. One of his short stories was made into this movie. The point being made is that he can't do anything other than write the occasional good book well at all. All of his other efforts, even when adaptations of his OWN work, are pretty lame. I agree. I've read all of his books and many are pretty good (but he keeps getting worse) but every time he tries something else, its an embarrassment. Even a comic book he wrote was bad (great choice of artist though) and he couldn't help but throw in some anti-Trump stuff like the class act that he is.
I have no idea who he is. I'm not much or a reader, but I can tell you who Philip K. Dick is. William Gibson? Nope.

Did you mean "books" plural? If not then what book did you read? Did you mean "the short story this movie is based on?" Just want to be clear.
He wrote a comic book called Archangel (or graphic novel, for those seeking to avoid the stigma) a few years ago involving time travel. The last panel was set up with wonder at what consequences their actions might have in the future. On that last panel is a newspaper announcing Trump's victory. Presented in Planet of the Apes style shock.
The comic is mediocre at best but penciled by Jackson (Butch) Guice who is arguably one of the top 5 comic artists of all time. I didn't regret reading it as I have read much worse. I just don't like it when writers feel the need to flaunt some perceived political high ground. Even if I agree with them. It is crass and subtracts from the story unless politics is specifically what the story is about.
I really enjoy about 3 out of 5 books by WG. I have read them all. If you like WG then I would suggest Bruce Sterling. I am a much bigger fan of his.

I think I've read a couple of Sterlings sci fi ,
But the only one i remember is a non fiction book he wrote called "The Hacker Crackdown"
The Great Hacker Crackdown is cool. I wasn't expecting a history book. His fiction is great. I recommend his short story compilations Global Head and Good Old Fashioned Future the most. I don't like much of his work after 2001 except Zeitgeist which is an excellent Leggy Starlitz story.
