Get Out my face you 'mag' (mug)
Wot u think ? And I'm not even a southern softie !!
As much as I enjoyed all of the films mentioned above. I think we are yet to see a football violence film that really captures the culture to a tea.
ID has the story, Football Factory has the violence and organisation, The Firm was enjoyable but the fact that the ICC (ICF) in the film was only made up of about 10 people was laughable, Green Street would have been good if a) there was no idiotic yank involved & b) the top boy could speak with a cockney accent as opposed to an Australian one.
So far, ID has the crown of best hoolie flick. But even then I still think that there has to be one in the not to distant future that puts all of the above films in their place. This genre doesn't have nearly enough films to its name.
For God, England, and St George
Totally agree with this JJJKMoore.
I prefer watching shows like 'The Real Football Factories' I own Football Factory the film and the Firm. Football Factory is good but really not as good as I hoped for.
ID is a cult football holigan and the first one I ever saw. It is good and so is football factory but NOT good enough IMO.
I can't see one being made shortly as it wasn't too long ago that Green Street and FF were released.
But I hopeful someone will make a quality some time.
ID
sharei would say i.d.
i found Football Factory disappointing really. the book its based on is really good but it just didnt translate onto film very well, plus they changed stuff too much and missed out certain characters and scenes from the book and added new stuff.
so, i.d. for watching Football Factory for reading!
I d is the best for me. I enjoyed FF . It sdidn't try and be a serious as the book , which i prefered , as i throught all that justification class war nonsense, was just that . b*lls.
the books best bits where the drinking and fighting which the film did justice.
'Work is the curse of the drinking classes' Oscar Wilde
I like both films, but I prefer I.D., I just think theres more realism in it. You could actually imagine someone getting a taste for the dangerous side of life and loving it, never wanting to go back...
See You At The Derry
My list of FV movies
1. FF - Most realistic
2. ID - Silly in a good way
3. The Firm - Just silly
4. Green Street - I hate this film
You should have included Green Street too! But of the 3 I still think I.D. is the best by a long way. Good topic. Thanks.
I'd like to know if anyone prefers Green Street as the best hooligan movie?
Someone pointed out earlier about no-one making a film on this subject that is the best ever made. Its a very difficult subject to translate to film 90% of the time living this lifestyle, nothing exciting happens! It's the 10% thats difficult to capture, and then translate to film.
Back to the original question though, I.D. I like, although not the best, got some good moments in it, takes me back a bit. Scenes like the one where the landlord races down the street after the away teams coach?!! And he wants to treat his wife like an animal all of a sudden, Give over! Even gets the tattoo on his a*se!
Football Factory is a laugh, more like a p**s up, rather than a football film. Got some quality comic moments in it, getting wasted, taking a bird home, going on about what your gonna do to her, then falling asleep! Bit too close to home that...
The Firm, I thought was very good when I first saw it a long time ago. Liked the meet up in Birmingham, and the steaming of the pub at the end against snowy(Philip Davis, director of I.D.).
Green Street what a waste of time. All the characters a non believable, joke accents totaly unwatchable. Nothing about the film I like.
I.D. the best out the four, 'cause of the fact its based on lower league football.
Anyone remember "Arrivederci Millwall"? 50/60 min play on BBC about a group of Millwall fans following England to Spain in the world cup of '82.
Definitely I.D.
The entire cast is note perfect. Reece Dinsdale gives the performance of his career as John. His character's transformation during the movie is mesmerising.
Phil Davis also does well in the director's chair.
You can't palm off a second-rater on me. You gotta remember I was in the pink!
ID and The Firm were fantastic films. Football Factory and Away Days were both ok films. Green Street was tosh - bad casting of Elijah Wood ruined it for me. The film just lost credibility despite most of the support cast being quite good.
