Best guess as to why Waingro had his shirt off in the taco stand bathroom?

I mean seriously guys, I bet this toilet rivaled that of the worst toilet in Scotland scene in Trainspotting, possibly worse. So why was his shirt off (he’s putting it on as he leaves the toilet) best guess?

I’ll start, he was freshening up with axe body spray to impress the crew, first impressions are important!

What say you, serious answers are welcome, I’ve always wondered what he was up to in there.

In an earlier draft of the script, this odd bathroom shirt behaviour was going to be the main conflict between Neil McCauley and Waingro, but they decided they had to start with an action scene and wrote the armoured car job. Later, bits of Michael Mann's script were recycled for TV...

I really appreciate that bit of knowledge! I would love a bit of elaboration, as in, context to how the odd shirt behavior was tied to “the main conflict between Neil and Waingro…,” was he shooting up or something and Neil caught him?
Was this scene included in the tv versions?!?
Thanks!!!

And that Seinfeld bit had me rolling!

Sorry, I was trying to do the text equivalent of a deadpan introduction to the Seinfeld clip. I was implying that George got Waingro's lines and Jerry was Neil, which is patently ridiculous.

My apologies for the confusion. Deadpan is hard to do in real life and I was dumb enough to try it in print.

I admire the intention, and it was very well played in hindsight.
Just shot right over my head like a kid in the outfield staring at the daisies while the fly ball lands at his feet.

Beautiful analogy.

and I bet Neil didn't give a s**t who gave him the shirt

Not sure i fully remember the scene but maybe he was of no fixed abode so wanted somewhere to clean up, does that fit? Sounds like you have seen it far more recently than me.

This is a definite possibility, one that I’ve considered and is probably it to be honest (still fun to speculate though, so keep the ideas coming). Waingro may just be out of prison, living on/around the street, and got lucky with snagging the heist-job, in terms of timing.

Bingo.
He's homeless so he's cleaning up in the bathroom.
You notice how the restaurant staff express some exasperation at him getting yet another refill, implying he's gotten many? Typical homeless person behavior.

reply

because he had to get it on
