Should’ve arrested them the first night

When they caught them breaking into the building, they should’ve arrested them right there and then.

Hannah said they could only slap them a Breaking and Entering misdemeanor. But they could’ve also slap them with a Vandalism charger with the damage they were doing.

And who knows? They were probably armed anyway, so a gun violation charge might fly as well.

Even if it was just a B&E, it would have prevented the Bank robbery and the multiple murders later.

reply

It would have prevented nothing...the crew would have eventually taken the more lucrative scores when the time was right.

They would not have served any time for the lesser crimes like B and E, vandalism etc. Lawyers would have seen to that.

Nope...Pacinos character made the right decision.

They guys were caught on video with multiple cops as witnesses.

Plus, they have criminal history (at least Neil does).

Trust me, they were fucked. Especially if they got guns on them.

With Neil behind bars, the crew wouldn’t have attempted such a big score. He was the brains.

Hannah's career is fucked.

Nobody can see the future. But people need to assign blame.

His decision was correct but risky.

Got his man at the end, but at the cost of his career and a few lives.

reply

Multiple cops were murdered, I wouldn’t call that a few lives.

In the end, I think it was about Hannah’s ego.

He wanted a big bust. His pride cost many lives and a lot of money in property damages.

reply

That is a little harsh. Hannah knew the system too well. Other examples in history have occurred where cops/prosecutors had a the chance to charge a criminal kingpin with a petty crime but passed because it was too weak.

The crew would have been back together in short time and put together big scores.

Hannah would have taken much more heat for LOSING HIS PREY, then for not taking them down earlier, which he could defend with reason.

More than anything I'd say that scene showed the parallels on both sides.
Hannah was disciplined enough cut his losses and not take them on a lesser charge, and Neil was disciplined enough to cut his losses and leave the place with nothing once he heard the noise from the truck.

And the movie would have ended. Wouldn't get that epic street shootout. Don't ever produce movies..
