Waingro being a serial killer
Brought up and then dropped completely.
shareI just watched this movie for the first time this morning and thought the same thing. No reason for his character to kill the prostitute other than for the writers to have a vehicle for Al Pachino to have the heartfelt scene consoling the surviving mother
shareI think it might have made more sense for Waingro to still be bothering Neil's crew in some way, culminating in him sabotaging the bank heist, instead of picking off random hookers.
It might have given Neil a stronger motive to go after him at the end of the film anyway.
I recently rewatched it after almost 2 decades. I kinda forgot about a chunk of the movie. So, it was like watching it for the first time, again. Well, kinda
Anyways, I kinda forgot about Waingro's role & genuinely thought that he was gonna have a bigger role. I honestly thought he was gonna trouble the crew going forward
I legit forgot about the serial killer bit.
wasnt he involved in the tip off they got aboutthe final bank heist?
shareI feel like that thread got cut down due to run time.
shareYeah it seemes weird , id totaslly forgotten that sub plot until recent rewatch.
It would have been far better if that scene with him killing the prostitute , and the scene with Pacino examing the body all came up before the gang took Waingro on as a hired hand..
then we'd be all like "ooh these guys dont know they've subcontracted a total psycho"
..but it would make for a slower build up/intro i guess
Waingro reminded me of Buffalo Bill.. then i realised Buffalo Bill was Vincents right man Bosko.. and that the Tooth Fairy was in it too.. and that Mann had directed that 1st Hannibal film
shareWaingro was a cowboy looking for anything heavy. He is introduced in act 1 & act 2 and subsequently killed in act 3.
He was a career criminal, serial rapist and murdered and a complete sociopath. The film works great as it is.
Without his role, nothing would happen in the film.
