The police didn’t know what’s Val Kilmer looked like?

They said they ran his license and car, and both were clean. So they let him go, thinking he was a regular civilian.

But didn’t the police know what he looked like beforehand? Did the haircut throw them off?

Did the haircut throw them off?
I suppose so. You’d be surprised by how much a simple haircut can sometimes change a person’s appearance. :)

But like someone mentioned in another post, you can’t expect most police officers, (at least in this case) to have anything beyond a rough description of a suspect like Chris. Furthermore, any photograph the police had of Chris would’ve possibly been an official photograph of him, e.g. one taken when he was incarcerated or possibly years younger. And obviously Chris had a fake ID that held up, so as far as I’m concerned Chris failing to be recognized by the cops was believable.

Still, no matter how many solid arguments some have made in defense of this scene, others still find it to be nothing more than a contrivance/silly. Guess you just have to accept it.

They were expecting Jim Morrison or Doc Holiday.
