Why is Loomis living happily in retirement while Michael is still out there somewhere and Jamie is missing?

Thats one thing i never understood about this movie, Loomis in 4 and 5 was obsessed and wouldn't rest until he knew Michael was dead. But at the end of H5 Michael escapes, he's still out there somewhere, and Jamie vanished with him, yet we first see Loomis in H6 living in some cottage full of sunshine and happiness living in retirement.

Why is he not on the hunt for Michael or trying to find Jamie? he's acting like he thinks Michael is dead or something, which we know from H5's ending he's not. At the very least they could've had some map on his wall with locations marked showing us he's been trying to track Michael down all this time. But theres nothing, he's writing memoirs and living in the countryside in retirement.

I just think it goes against his character that he's not looking for Michael when he knows he's still out there somewhere.

At least in H20 we see Loomis' room where he lived with Marion the nurse is full of newspaper clippings and maps and locations marked, we see Loomis has been searching for Michael all the way up until he died.

Maybe he thought Michael and Jamie died in the police explosion

No its made clear they're both missing, Tommy says it during his narration in the opening that Michael and Jamie vanished, he does say most believe they're dead, but that wouldn't be enough for Loomis, he would have to have definitive proof Michael is dead.

Plus i would think they could identify in the aftermath if a little girls body was in the police station, it would be the only body the size of a little girl...

The Producer's Cut explains this:

"After my stroke six years ago, they practically had to put a gun to my head to get me to retire."

"I've buried the ghosts in this memoir."

He's also listening to Barry Simms, so the memories of Haddonfield and Michael Myers still linger.

Maybe Loomis decided he was too old/frail to keep chasing Michael, like he'd already lost the battle.
