How Frankie(Frank Vincent) "Turned" at the End(SPOILERS)

One of the things that has always intrigued me about Casino is how Frank Vincent's loyal henchman to Joe Pesci finally "turns" at the end.

In the cornfield. Pesci and his brother have been lured there for a meeting and within seconds, Pesci's "loyal" Frank is the one who not only leads the first baseball bat beating of Pesci but then leads the fatal assault on Pesci's brother...and makes Pesci watch it, start to finish.

When you watch Casino a second time, you can see how Frank probably took as much as he could take from Pesci ...but never would have moved against him unless and until the mob bosses in Kansas City gave Frank the OK to kill Pesci. And then...all that pent-up employee/boss anger kicked in.

I'm reminded how, when Pesci is torturing that Irish guy with the head in the vise, he says to Frank, "I swear if he doesn't tell us soon, I'm gonna give them YOUR name" and "YOU would have ratted out by now." Total disrespect from boss to loyal manservant.

And of course, Frank puts his own life on the line with the Kansas City bosses when he lies about Pesci cheating with Stone.

Yep, it all comes down to the moment when Frank proves not to be too loyal to Pesci at all. The viciousness of the baseball bat beatings suggests that Frank is all too willing to be part of the team that finally kills Pesci.

Good points. Also consider that when the big bosses tell you the little boss needs to go you have to do what the big bosses say or you'll go with him. But yeah, he did seem to enjoy his part in the disposal of the little boss.

And, if you're reading this Joe Pesci... no offense, I'm not calling you the small boss because of your height or anything.

I've posted this elsewhere, but apparently there was a bit of wish fulfillment on the actor's part.

Behind the scenes, Vincent was telling Pesci this was his revenge for "Raging Bull" and "Goodfellas" (where Pesci's characters beat Frank Vincent's characters)

Maybe that passion leaked onto the screen

Basically he had to kill him otherwise he’d be killed with him, he looks almost sad when he’s watching them get buried though, even after his brutal participation.

Remember the quote from Donnie Brasco?

“You go in alive and you come out dead, and it’s your best friend that does it”
