Vegetarians - Higher IQs

As a child's IQ rises, his taste for meat in adulthood declines, a new study suggests.

British researchers have found that children's IQ predicts their likelihood of becoming vegetarians as young adults -- lowering their risk for cardiovascular disease in the process. The finding could explain the link between smarts and better health, the investigators say.

Ok, ok; personal experience has specified otherwise, but I guess I'll look at the most likely intially biased study.

you can't fight in here, this is the war room!

reply

your posts sounds much more biased than the study.

are you a professional researcher?

do you have any credentials in research at all??

do you?

I did not bash the research study like you did. And the researchers that performed
the study DO have real credentials, and you clearly do not!!!!

So you have zero basis for trashing it.

Before giving any creedance to the study look at who financed it.

Before typing the word credence first you will have to learn to spell it.

So I take it you are probably a meat eater?

Okay now it's just getting stupid. See ya.

With you, that's the way you started it.

Spelling and meat eating aside, studies like this normally fail to show any causal link. What the researchers found will have been a correlational link between vegetarianism and higher intelligence due to the fact that you get very few vegetarians in lower social classes who do not have the same access to quality education that people in the middle and higher classes have.

P.S. feel free to correct any spelling mistakes.

reply

Thankyou!

Correlation does not equal causality.

Scientists are always making these kind of mistakes. 90% of everything scientists say is refuted 10 years later.

Btw, doesn't this study kind of contradict the commonly held belief that protein (mostly found in meats) is what makes the brain grow? That is how we evolved from apes.

reply

I know certain strands of protein were linked with the evolution of the brain but I don't know if they were proteins that came solely from meats. it is possible to have a balanced diet if you're a vegetarian, you'd just have to make sure you get your protein from other sources. Like I said I wouldn't pay too much attention to a study like this. The scientists obviously had their own agenda.

reply

Study says:

If you don't eat meat you're retard

reply

hahah I like meat. All kinds.

one statement made me laugh. "90% of what scientists find out is refuted 10 years later." hahahaha where the heck did that one come from :)

Someone isn't very happy.

I agree with the person above, but meat can also be very expensive. It is also a good source of protein and provides vitamins and minerals that would need to be replaced by supplements.

Not all vegetarians are smart...and not all meat eaters are dumb. I am currently pulling straight-A's, and am quite intelligent. I also enjoy meat.

However, I also love animals. It is just a simple fact of life that humans are carnivorous. We have eyes set in the front of our skulls, canines for tearing meat, and nutritional requirements that are suited for a meat-and-veggie diet.

I don't eat all animals, however. I don't eat wild animals, and only try to eat high-quality meats, such as a good chicken, turkey, or a lean cut of steak. No need to get rid of it all.

When I go away to college (freedom for decisions! YEAH!) I am planning on becoming vegetarian (no meat, but fish and eggs are okay). However, as I live in a meat eating household, it would be difficult to arrange for a different diet for me.

Members of my family are quite intelligent. My mother worked at Harvard (and attended classes during her occupation), Boston College, AND Middlebury as an English major. My father attended Boston Latin School (both of my parents speak Latin), Middlebury, and graduated as a physics major. And guess what? They both eat meat.

Stand back, amigo! This is a job for...the Anti-Christ!

Einstein was vegetarian, many famous scientists were, Edison, Newton.

reply

So was a fellow by the name of Adolf Hitler.
he detested meats and loved all animals.
so by your logic all vegetarians are all crazy facist dictators.
just like how since einstein, newton and others were vegetarians, makes ALL vegetarians smart.

reply

I hate it when vegetarians try to make everyone else vegetarian like it's a religion. It's a choice and I choose to eat beef, and not chicken, carrots, but not celery, etc. It's a matter of taste, and as for animal rights...

it's called the circle of life

or if you want to get all academic, survival of the fittest.

And I do agree that it's about class and money. When you work 12 hours a day, you have other things to worry about than whether what you're eating is organic or has this many calories, or has meat in it, etc. People only begin to self-improve when they have time. That's how the renaissance occurred, new technologies made things more efficient allowing more time to worry about other things, etc.

reply

Who tried to make you vegetarian? Where do you work 12 hours a day?

"If I'm laughing at what I think I am, its very funny"

reply

If vegetarians are so smart, let's see if they survive in a situation where vegetables aren't available. Stranded in the wilderness, the vegetarian encounters a potential meal; an animal. The vegetarian refuses to kill the animal for his own survival and slowly dies from starvation. Not all places have edible vegetation. Eat meat or die.

reply

If meat eaters are so smart, lets see how well they hold up when someone beats them repeatedly around the head with a bag of frozen quorn burgers. Think about it.

reply

What does that have to do with anything?

reply

Nothing.
Everything.
Its a savage garden my friend.

Truly diet really no bearing on human IQ
the best diet for a human would be the diet of an omnivore.one that consists of both meat and vegetables.
this is why we have both cutting teeth and molars for chewing.

reply

I'm a vegetarian myself (for health reasons) and while this study may be correct, the conclusions drawn from t are wrong. People of higher IQ tend to be more educated so choose a healthier diet of vegetables and pulses. It's education, not dietary choice.

reply

the opposite - vegetarians are degenerates, it's meat that made man's predecessor's brains grow

vegetarianism in childhood is extremely unhealthy!

reply

Like many have said in this thread; some are vegetarians are smart, some are stupid, likewise with meat-eaters.

I'm pro-hunting meat, but anti-farmed meat. I don't believe it's right to raise an animal from birth, nuture and care for it, and then kill it. Whether you like it or not, the animal will develop a trust in you; not to mention they have zero chance of escaping that fate. I find the slaughter of domestic animals to be disturbing and unnatural.
Hunting is a part of nature, however, many animals do it and it is perfectly natural for a human to hunt meat. It is fair too; the prey will know you are a predator, and does have a chance of escaping death.
Not to mention the conditions for farm animals these days are disgusting. If you want meat; hunt it, clean it, and prepare it yourself. Only hunters really 'deserve' to eat meat. People who can't stand the sight of blood, quiver in a slaughter-house, or are simply to fat/inactive/lazy/imcompetent to hunt have no business eating it.

"vegetarianism in childhood is extremely unhealthy!"

My dad's side of the family are Hindu, they're all vegetarian and have been vegetarian from birth. So are many Indians and Hindus.
Thanks for dissing an entire culture and people, dickhead.
Typical ignorant westerner. Maybe you should get off your privledged ass and take look around at some other cultures.
