I once wrote a story about a fictional badly defeated country called Guarania, based on the worst defeated country in modern history, Paraguay. And some readers thought it was an allegory for the USA because the flag of Guarania had red, white, and blue stripes. I guess I never noticed those blue stripes in the American flag!
The red, white, and blue flag of Guarania is actually modeled on the red, white, and blue flag of Paraguay, of course.
