I have the DVD set "Sex and science Fiction" and there's a bit of full frontal nudity in it that I did not expect. Not complaining at all just it's there...
The show originally ran on Showtime and was picked up by Sci-Fi channel in the early 2000's. When it aired on Sci-Fi channel it was edited for television.
Robotron2084 + Super Mario Brothers = Supermario2084
During its run on Showtime, edited versions were prepared for broadcast. The Canadian season sets mostly have the edited versions; since MGM only released Season 1 and a set of six compilation discs, you are likely to find the shorter versions (which also include fades for commercial breaks).
I watched the series regularly during the late 90. The broadcast versions usually appeared a few months after the Showtime airing.
I don't know yet if the versions available on Amazon Instant Video are edited or not. One quick way to tell is at the beginning: after the control voice finishes its intro, it says: "Please stand by." This was added for the commercial break that followed. On the unedited versions, you do not hear this.
We report, you decide; but we decide what to report.
I can confirm that the versions available on Amazon Instant Video are now unedited, Hulu has the unedited versions of all the episodes with the exception of Final Appeal, Mary 25 and Lithia which are all available unedited on Amazon.
Also, how good are the episodes in "Sex and Science Fiction" and from what little I hear, is it true that at least one of the episodes there is similar to "Species" (1995) (at least the original movie rather than any sequels) not to mention in one of them Natasha Henstridge also stars.
