James Cameron’s career can be broken down into two distinct phases; pre-Titanic and post-Titanic. After he broke the all-time box office record and took home Best Picture and Best Director, Cameron lived up to his self-proclaimed title as King of the World. Before his coronation, he was just an A-list director with a reputation for going over-budget and pissing off his crew.

This interview from the July 1994 issue of Movieline magazine comes from a time when no one ever expected Cameron to win an Oscar. He was reuinted with Arnold Schwarzenegger for the action-comedy, True Lies. That movie’s prospects were uncertain following the failure of Schwarzengger’s previous action-comedy, Last Action Hero.
