this was SO MUCH BETTER than Trainspotting

shareI’d say they’re equal in quality but I prefer SG. It’s tighter, leaner and more focused - it’s claustrophobic and engrossing. Trainspotting is more of a sprawling montage with a bit of narrative thrown in toward the end (ironically centering around yet another bag of money fought over by friends who will betray each other).
Trainspotting is more fun, though, with great gags, great tunes, and it comments on the plight of a real social class in Scotland. SG is more of a self-contained Hitchcockian thriller.
Both are right up there amongst Boyle’s finest work, but his real masterpeice? Sunshine.
