Question about the Shadow's rings

When the Shadow's taxi driver gives the Asian man the ring and tells him "Don't ever take it off.", what would happen if one of the Shadow's companions took off the ring?

It is a token for the brotherhood and should be respected and so worn at all times. In is not a warning as in you finger will fall off or other.

It's also a way for the Shadow to communicate with his agents. And since they all owe him their life for one reason or another, they are basically expected to be at his beck and call at all times. So if an agent takes his ring off and puts it away, and the Shadow tries to reach him, then it's deep doo-doo.
