The most underrated score on IMDB

This is a great movie, way better than the 5.3 score on IMDB. Normally IMDB is a good way to get a read on a movie's quality, but this is way off. I realize that this movie is quirky and will be lost for some, but 5.3 is ridiculous. This is a classic in a way and should have at least an 8 in my book. It makes me think that some people who "don't get it" may find themselves buying the late-night colon cleansing tablets.

Anyways, can anyone think of another movie on IMDB whose score is way out-of-wack with the movie quality?

Well, different things make different people laugh of course, but I must say I'm astonished this film isn't recognized as one of the funniest of the nineties. Very, very surprised at its low rating here on IMDB too...

the most overrated movie on IMDB in all actuality. its really not that good

I would give it an 8 to 8.5. I thought it had some very amusing scences.

I agree. It's one of the few comedies that keeps me in genuine hysterics every time I view it. In that sense it's up there with classics like Monty Python's Life of Brian, and The Big Lebowski. The characters are so quirky and genuine and the dialogue and there are so many memorable situations and lines.

"I can't eat that much yogurt."
"It's not going in that end, Mr. Lightbody."

Hopkins delivers this line with a earnest sincerity that it's easy to take him at face value, which is what's so damn funny. The images of Matthew Broderick drunk in the bathtub after his "debauch" or being whipped by paddles on one of Kellog's machines are making me laugh just thinking about them.

This is a brilliantly written, acted and directed and above all hilarious film. There is no way in a million years it deserves its low rating. I think the problems a lot of people have with the film stem from its rather blunt and direct approach it takes with the humour (there's a scene where the main character's wife and one of her friends are being fisted at a retreat) and also due to the fact that it's on a scatological topic that a lot of people are sensitive and taboo about.

I saw the movie when it came out on VHS, I was around 17. I am going to watch it on Netflix tonight and see what I think about it now.

It was definitely one of those movies that you quote and make references too afterwards, maybe I hyped it up in my mind but surely it is better than a 5.4

It has a 3 out of 5 stars rating on Netflix so about the same rating there.

One of the funniest comedies and over all best movies I've seen in my life.

Absolutely most underrated movie on IMDB. Usually IMDB is a great place to get an idea of a movie, but the ratings on this one are just plain wrong.

Full of wonderful, talented actors. John Cusack and Matthew Broderick, two of my all time favorites, together. The humor on the top should be enough to satisfy your typical american what with the references to BM's and poop jokes, and the subtext is wonderful. This is a satire, it is caricature, and it is brilliant. People simply don't get it. It's a 10 for me. For it to get a 5.5 means many people rated it 4 or less. Shocking.

The weirdest part is that you can't buy it on Amazon nor watch it on Netflix. Why in the world would a movie with all these big name actors so hard to get? I had to buy it on DVD from an ebay vendor in Athens, Greece!

I was thinking the same thing when I saw your post! the exact same thing! Even the top reviewer says it's an awesome film for health nuts but then gives it like 6 stars? WTF? he even says how much he adored it. sigh.
Of course I'm biased as my own business has the word health Nut in it... but still! I loved it too and don't get the low score AT all.

10/10. perfect movie, anyone who claims otherwise is a blebs. And probably prefers cornflakes to meat and potatoes.

100% agreed! I loved the movie, the soundtrack is amazing too!
