The most underrated score on IMDB

This is a great movie, way better than the 5.3 score on IMDB. Normally IMDB is a good way to get a read on a movie's quality, but this is way off. I realize that this movie is quirky and will be lost for some, but 5.3 is ridiculous. This is a classic in a way and should have at least an 8 in my book. It makes me think that some people who "don't get it" may find themselves buying the late-night colon cleansing tablets.

Anyways, can anyone think of another movie on IMDB whose score is way out-of-wack with the movie quality?

Well I don't agree with you about this one. This is right up there with the Peter Finch / Liv Ullmann version of Lost horizon. Plain awful. It had no redeeming qualities whatsoever and proved for me that Hopkins fellow couldn't act his way out of a wet paper bag.

Wholeheartedly greed. This movie has a very special place in both my heart, as well as my brother's. Today I threatened him over the phone that I would give him fifteen gallons if he didn't mail me back my camera.

sorry, but the moment Mr. Hopkins opened his mouth with those rabbit teeth and portrayed a charicature and not a character, the movie lost all semblance of credibility for me. The best thing in the whole movie, was that strange looking little actor who played George as a little boy !

I fully agree ...BY FAR THE MOST UNDERRATED SCORE. I gave this movie a 10 because it is one of the few comedies which make you laugh your guts out (even if you've seen it all already and many other comedies don't even make you smile...).

It is a pity we can see comments like those posted on the board now...it is clear many many people don't have a developed sense of humour and they only catch Adam Sandler's kind of humour...

Also, what is amazing about this movie, is the fact that deep beneath the comedy, a lot of drama is hidden. Only an example, though the scenes where the little boy is shown protesting his father's decisions seem all comedy, they hide a very deep drama if one pays attention.

If you don't understand it, don't vote it!

Broderick alone makes this movie. Great performance.

The rating is pretty bad. We enjoyed the movie and all the contraptions.

People say this all the time on this site but I think this rating is a perfect example of people "not getting it". I have tried to watch with some of my friends in the past and at least half of them couldn't see the humor through most of it. Subtle in many places but just so damn well put together and acted in my opinion.
To the guy that says this film proves that Anthony Hopkins can't act I say watch "Remains Of The Day" and then follow it up with this film (filmed very near in time to each other) and actually watch it all the way through this time. Simply an amazing actor. "World's Fastest Indian", "Silence Of The Lambs", "Titus".. talk about range as an actor.

I absolutly agree. This is one of those movies that I will never forget and scenes will constantly pop into my head. It is pure enjoyment from beginning to end. I cannot believe that it got a 5.3 either. I also scored it an 8.
