Wouldn't this make a great tv show?

Unfortunately I did not discover this gem of a movie until today. I realized that this setting, as far as I know, is an untapped area of brilliance that would make an enthralling comedy/drama tv show.

What do other people think?

That feeling hits me every time I watch The Paper- it has an obvious vibe of being an episode sliced out of an ongoing story.

Today's paper environment is quite different, yes, but who says a series would have to be present-day?

Why not make a series about a daily paper newsroom set in the 1980's?

I thought the same thing. The entertainment section would be covering the advent of MTV and VH1. Featured artists would include Madonna and Michael Jackson. I just thought the storyline of this movie was terrific!

reply

True. It could be a period piece like "Mad Men", but about newspapers instead of ad agencies.

I'd like to see it as a show that ventured somewhere between comedy and drama. It has been done before (See "Lou Grant").

It would certainly be a refreshing change from the crap reality shows that are so popular.

Ha! You think you're late to the party??!! Think about 2015!! And I loved it, as well! It could be a storyline adapted to TV! Maybe that's what "Newsroom" is attempting, but I prefer this cast!!

reply

Im really late to the party! I'd rather spend time with Michael Keaton and Glen Close than an office filled with self-important 20-somethings like the Newsroom, which is mercifully gone now!

reply

Yes, it would make for an excellent show.
