I love this film... - Only You (1994) Discussion

I loved this film, too. I've got it on DVD and watch it after my husband has gone to bed, since he'd think I was crazy if he saw me watching it so many times! If you like romantic films,you should also see "Serendipity" with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, and "Love Actually" with Hugh Grant and a bunch of others. Also, "Notting Hill", again with Hugh Grant and with Julia Roberts, is great for romance. The scenery isn't as great as in "Only You," but these are all films that somehow make you watch them over and over again. All of them depict people who are so right for each other, but you wonder if they will ever get together.

I agree I LOVE this movie, Serendipty and Love Actually. All my top 3 romantic movies. Serendipty and this are very similar with the whole fate thing, but love actually is a bit different. Great choices :)

All of those are great! Also, "It Could Happen to You" with Nicolas Cage and Bridget Fonda"...totally beautiful movie. I think "Only You" is still one of my favorites though. :)

predictible? well i really dont think so! but its your own idea! anyway... well actually i dont like romantic movies too much but this was really,truly AWESOME! i loved it. the dialogues and the mimic were great! maria tomei and robert downey jr. were great for this movie! anyway... i recommend this film to everyone -even the people who dont like romanic movies-

I'm a 60 year old man and I too love this film too. Marisa Tomei is just absolutely beautiful and sweet as can be, Robert Downey is at his best - he is one of the most talented actors around, and Bonnie Hunt is incredible in a way that only she can be. And on top of all that, the Italian scenery is magical. I bought the DVD and love to watch it. My wife is almost sick of the movie. "Tea with Mussolini" and "My House in Umbria" are two other favorites.

"My House in Umbria" was amazing, the story, the scenery, the acting, everything.

I love "Only You." It was the first movie I can remember seeing Robert Downey Jr. in a lead role and I think I've had a bit of a hopeless crush on him ever since, and for the sake of my girlish adoration, I hope he can kick some of his bad habits in his personal life.
Marisa Tomei is gorgeous as always, and though her character is a bit flaky, thank God she had her sister-in-law to keep her feet on the ground. (I identified more with Kate, can you tell? :P)

The best part, for me, is the nuns filling the car with gas. I just die laughing over that part every time. The film is very romantic and funny and not a little tongue-in-cheek when comparing "real life" to what you see in the movies--a cute reminder to stop and think that maybe the two aren't so far apart as the cynic in us would have us believe.

Add me to the list of those who love this film! I agree with the last poster who commented on Robert Downey, Jr. I haven't seen many of his other films, but he will always be in my favorite actors category, simply for this movie.

This movie actually inspired my sister and I to take a roadtrip to Italy after her graduation from college. We want to get one of those awful little orange cars and drive around until we run out of gas. :)

This is the best romantic comedy ever! I totally loved it since I was 13, and I still secretly watch it (22).

I'm from Mexico, and many people here haven't watched it or don't even know about it. That's such a shame!!

Nevermind, for my taste, that's the way most romantic movies should be.

This is definitely one of my fav films! I can watch it over and over again! The scenery in Italy is amazing. This film has inspired me to visit the Amalfi Coast and go to Positano! (where they go in the film) beautiful!

Listen to your friend Billy Zane....he's a cool dude.

Such a good movie, one of the best romantic movies ever made. Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei, were incredible!! I've seen it several times, since I was 15, when it came out. If you think this is good, I recommend "Chances Are" with Robert Downey Jr. Very good, a bit old, but very romantic.

I love this movie!! It's like a little trip to Italy. Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei are so adorable. It also made me a big fan of Bonnie Hunt and I could totally relate to her little romancewith the handsome Italian.

It's one of my top romance movies. If you like period romances try Pride and Prejudice, the 1995 BBC series(long but so worth it, the new one is good too)and Sense and Sensibility.

its a sweet movie and despite the corniness, its still a beautiful movie to watch, i just watched it today for the first time and i wanna watch it again.

definitely the best part is robert downey junior, he's just so handsome (he's past hot) and he looks genuinely romantic. i wish he'd make more movies these days.

btw vitaproductions, i just saw ur post, that is so sweet that u can appreciate romantic movies, it's very rare for males :)

This is one of my favorite movies! RDJ and Marisa Tomei are both so young and beautiful and have such chemistry; they are a delight to watch. Bonnie Hunt is wonderful, she doesn't miss a beat. I loved her story line, marriage has lost its glow and she is swept (almost)off her feet by a handsome,hot Italian. Watching the beautiful Italian countryside and views of Positano were like taking a little mini vacation. The pensione in Roman was adorable; I want to go there! The ending is the best and the contrast of the Americans vs romantic,emotion-filled Italians. Hollywood, are you listening? We want more movies like this!
