I'm currently watching "Miracle on 34th Street" at primetime and everytime I see Sir Richard Attenborough, I start to believe that he's Santa ;). It's giving the magic of christmas back... and I'm feeling like a little boy in front of the christmas tree waiting for him to come.
Though I've never seen the original, I like this version very much every chrismas time.
You're kidding, right? Attenborough was a terrible choice for Santa Claus. He's bland, he doesn't have the proper look--his beard's far too short, for one thing--and THOSE TEETH! They look like a broken picket fence that's been painted yellow. No, there's a reason that Edmund Gwenn won an Academy Award in 1948 for his portrayal of Kris Kringle, and that this weak, lackluster version of "Miracle on 34th Street" was only nominated for Razzy Awards.
As much as I love Dickie Attenborough, my first memory of a performance by him is seeing 10 Rillington Place when I was about 8 or 9, so the effect of him as Kris Kringle is somewhat ruined.
