If you told someone if you won the lottery..
you would give them half of it, would you have kept the promise?
shareyou would give them half of it, would you have kept the promise?
shareSure, even half of the money is such a great sum, and a promise is a promise. Call me stupid, but i will do if i actually tell them and win the luck.
shareYup, absolutely.

I probably would too. I mean sure everyone is a bit selfish, but the guilt would be too much to handle.
shareYes, if I told them they could have half I would keep the promise, but I probably wouldn't offer that in the first place. Not that I wouldn't give money away, but I'd prefer to divide it differently between family/friends and charities of my choice, and yes, maybe some to random strangers, but not half, I'd give more strangers less.

I'd probably (while being honest) end up giving her 10 grand or something. Or offer ti pay off her credit cards. She'd have been more than thrilled.

See that is the thing. Charlie was an honest person and he felt that he had to keep his word, no matter what his wife was telling him.
shareI'd haggle. And come on, Charlie did try to get out of it. He gave her two choices and if she'd picked the second one, it's possible he would have just given her double the tip and walked away. But yeah, I'd haggle; come up with a number way less than half, but enough to fix any financial problems she had.

Hell to the naw!!!!!!!! I'd save every penny for myself and family.
Anyone saying they WOULD doesn't have that kind of money yet! If they had, they would not give some stranger cause "a promise is a promise". Please, stop lying to paint yourself as a better person. You'll change your mind at the drop of hat once you win that kind of money.
At least I'm honest enough to admit I would move far away, change my number and possibly my name. And only stay in contact with the family/friends who were nice and genuine before I won the money!
You might be able to live with the guilt but many people couldn't. As to what would happen in real life, at least one person would give up half the money. This movie is based on the real life story of someone who did just that.
I would never promise to split the money with anyone, unless we were pitching in to buy a mass number of tickets. Howerver, I have told a few close friends and family members that I would help them out financially if I ever won the lottery and I would definitely keep that promise.
shareI would be worried about karma if I didn't keep my word, especially after a gift like that.
Which is why I'm careful who I make promises to...
