All the hate on Rosie as Betty but.....

No critique on Liz Taylor as Wilma's mother...... Liz Taylor didn't look nor act ANYTHING like Wilma's mother from the cartoon!

Go figure

Betty is a main character. Wilma's Mother was only a semi-regular. Hence the focus on Rosie over Liz.

Personally, I don't mind Rosie as 'Betty'. She's not the gorgeous, svelte Betty from the cartoon, but it actually makes more sense that a sweet, easy-going schlub like Barney would be married to a more homely-looking woman rather than a complete hottie. Barney, particularly in this film, is presented as a decent guy and not the type to have his head turned so easily by a sexually attractive woman, in contrast to the shallower and more materialistic Fred.

Even in the cartoon, I never really saw Betty as HOT, per se, I saw her as cute. I've noticed many times cute girls like that will be with dumpy not-so-attractive guys. Kinda like Ed and Trixie Norton from the Honeymooners. I thought Trixie was cute but not like "hot".

Sure, but she was still cuter than Rosie O'Donnell.

Also, I suspect most people would say that cartoon Betty was hotter than cartoon Wilma. Betty had a fuller and sexist face than Wilma, and her voice wasn't as shrill.

Anybody, or anything (like my pet lizard), is cuter than Rosie O'Donnell.

Confession: I don't even have a pet lizard.

I don't typically like Rosie (I cheered when they said they were going to shoot her zombie in Dawn of the Dead) but even I can admit she was a good fit in that role.
