Why didn't Bruno Kirby return?

I'm a big fan of Jon Lovitz, but-- the only comedian in the first movie was Crystal. In this one, there are now two. I can't take Lovitz seriously, he's just a silly, goofy character actor, that's all. Kirby was wonderfully deadpan in the first movie, and the second movie would have been twice as good (if not moreso) with "Ed Furillo". How could Mitch and Phil go on an expedition like this without Ed? Especially considering all they went through together? It would have been like making another Three Amigos movie without Chevy Chase.

Does anyone know WHY Brono Kirby didn't return in this movie?

The reason was because Bruno Kirby and Billy Crystal fell out for a short while, I believe. Also, Kirby was very allergic to horses (in the first film he had to have injections before shooting each day) and probably didn't see the point in going through it all again.

Hope this helps. I agree though, Kirby would have been good in this one and is missed.

overrated? one had a role in Godfather part 2 the other had a cameo in This is Spinal Tap and was in alot of subpar comedies thru out the 80's gee who's over rated?

Bruno Kirby was also in Spinal Tap.

It's true. Crystal and Kirby had a falling out for some stupid reason and it screwed the sudience in the second film not to see them all together again. Frankly, they should have brought back Helen Slater back as well. The sexual tension would have been fun. I could have improved this ridiculous script because it was a real mess. Having to watch Billy Crystal have sex made me want to throw up.

Yes, they had a falling out. They made up shortly after the filming of the movie, however.

You are all wrong, they never had a falling out, the truth is this: "Bruno Kirby refused to sign on for the sequel City Slickers II: The Legend of Curly's Gold unless script changes were made, and was subsequently replaced by Jon Lovitz."

Crystal was successful in having Kirby blacklisted in Hollywood but Bruno Kirby was a considered to be a genuinely nice guy and was well-liked by a lot of people in “the industry” and after Kirby was diagnosed with leukemia and passed away a lot of people were very, very angry about Crystal’s treatment of Kirby and that is why Crystal was on top one minute and then seemingly forgotten about the next minute.

“I have worked with Billy onscreen and yes he has more hair now than he did then. Those are little sprouts of hair he glues in all over his head. I've seen them sitting in hair and make up. No one is allowed in the trailer when he is having his magic hair attached.

I didn't like bruno, it seemed like he was trying to hard in his character, didn't seem natural to me.

The third one could be "The Search For Curly" ala Spock.

Crystal digs up Curly and finds Bruno.

See it could happen.
