Helen Sinclairs character influenced by Sunset Blvd?

When I saw Sunset Blvd, Norma Desmond instantly reminded my of Helen Sinclair (although Helen isn't as creepy). Do you think Woody Allen was influenced by Sunset Blvd? There are many simalarities in each of them.

I don't see the real similarity. Helen Sinclair had seen better days, but she was still a well-known star, which is why they cast her to give credibility to the play. Norma Desmond was a genuine has-been, who had for 20 years been holed up in her mansion hidden from the world. Helen was eccentric. Norma was delusional and living in her own little fantasy land. Helen had many lovers; Norma appeared to be living a chaste life for many years. Helen was a boozer; Norma was not.

I thought Diane Wiest was playing this " over the top self-absorbed Talullah Bankhead type actress"...

I would say yes definitely! This is one of Woody Allen's best I would say. Diane Weist was hilarious. The whole cast was amazing. Great acting, direction, etc. Loved it!

Allen also rehashed A Streetcar Named Desire for his Blue Jasmine.
