shareHopefully, this one pans out. I just hope it's faithful to the novel.
I wonder which version it will be based on: the original set in 1980 or the C&U set in 1990?
C&U ?
shareC&U ?Sorry. I mean Complete and Uncut. share
Thanks, Gary. I now recall us discussing that edition a little while back. I'm guessing it will be based on the 1980 version because the story I linked mentions "823 pages" in reference to the source material. This is just a guess, though. It's pretty exciting news either way. Can't wait!
shareAgreed; extraordinary news!! It appears that the new miniseries will try to be reasonably true to the book as well. That, for me, is good news indeed!
shareI'd really have to assume this is gonna updated to a modern setting. That way they can pick on Trump.
shareHmm. On the surface, there seems to be a LOT of buzz about this, admittedly. So what amazes me is that amid ALL the buzz, the number of people and sites that want to speak this into reality have had so much to say about it. That is, except FOR CBS All Access and IMDb. And with a project slated for 2019 (which we are six weeks away from), IMDb almost always has something listed this close to its possible release. Don't get me wrong. I'm hoping FOR it. I'm just saying, I'll believe it when it happens. So far, 100% of what I have found online came from sources I have NEVER heard of. IMDb and CBS are the FIRST wide sources I would expect to see info on. And right now, there's nothing.
For a project with a 2019 date, there is no buzz about actors chosen, shooting locations, production updates, no teasers, nothing. This kind of project is epic in scale (and far too big to remain completely under wraps). This is probably not even something that can be shot, let alone completed in a year's time, especially since production hasn't even started - and we are 6 weeks from 2019.
Maybe this is Ryan Reynolds' mystery movie when everybody thought he was making Thundercats. It's far more likely this project is still years out.

This is one thing, I'll almost certainly watch and get the DVD.
This is good news, indeed!!
Just read your post... I will check out the link in a moment, and I'm really, Really, REALLY praying that this is going to be made for CBS ALL ACCESS and not broadcast CBS because if it is, it's going to be the most watered-down and homogenized crap imaginable. BRB
YAY! It IS All Access! Thank god for that, at least they won't have to pull their punches. Still not crazy about it being done by CBS, but beggars can't be choosy, I suppose....
Well hopefully it isn't anything like the Mist series or Under the Dome. Those King adaptions to TV were not so good.
shareI know a lot of people disliked The Mist but I actually enjoyed it. I thought it got a lot more hate than it deserved.
shareAgreed, those two examples were excrementally awful. The Mist was just boring. But I have to admit, I actually continued viewing Under The Dome (or, Under the Dumb as it was generally referred to on the IMBD boards) because it was so unbelievably stupid and ridiculously scripted that is was fun to watch and make fun of.
shareI can't find any hints at the cast...Anyone hear anything?
shareI did a double-take when I searched IMDumB for some info...and saw The Stand (2019) starring...Drew Barrymore!
Turns out this is some movie in development with the same title and not the King story. Thank god for that! Drew Barrymore in The Stand would make Molly Ringwald in the previous version look like Meryl Streep.
What you got against Drew Barrymore?
shareI find her "acting" to be one-note...which would be ok if that one-note was pleasant, but she grates on my nerves like nails on a blackboard.
shareI've always liked her, though I don't think she always chooses the best projects. She's always interesting to me, but most of her films aren't.
Still to this day her performance in E.T. stands as one of the greatest child performances of all time. It was so natural.
Well, yeah she was cute in E.T....but then again, nearly all kids are cute (it goes with the territory).
Except for that kid they cast as Danny Torrance in the TV version of The Shining. He was so annoying I was rooting for Jack to kill him.
I think it goes beyond being cute. A lot of kids, when they act, it feels like they're acting. The kid from the TV version of The Shining is a perfect example. He was awful.
But in E.T., Barrymore doesn't really feel like she's acting at all, she very much feels like a real kid going through something extraordinary. I just rewatched the movie for the first time in years a little while back and her performance actually blew me away.
These days, like I said, I like her but I just wish she'd pick better films to appear in. Looking over her filmography for the past 15 years, the only thing that stands out to me is Whip-It.
I'm glad you mentioned filmography because I think that's a factor when it comes to the amount of admiration (for want of a better word) I either have or don't have for certain performers. Some actors/actresses just seem to know how to pick roles in films that I find interesting or at least worthy of respect...and others (Drew being one of them) do not. I think this says a lot, either about the personal taste of the actor themselves, or whether they're perceptive enough to take good advice from whomever their handlers are.
shareAnything further on this?

CBS thinking their shows are worth a streaming service and instead of putting those shows on their ota station putting it their so you'd have to pay to watch the show if your interested in it.
shareIt is not likely that I'll watch it live. What I'll probably wait for the DVD or the Blu-ray, as they'll likely be English or English SDH subtitled.
