At the end of the book Randal Flagg comes back with a new name. Dont get me wrong. I love the book. I have read it over and over again. I just have one question. What was the point of Glenn, Ralph, and Larry dying if their deaths didnt stop Flagg?

Cool topic. Enjoyed reading through these responses and everyone's ideas. I know when I first saw the movie and read the book I was severely disappointed by the ending. It made no sense that they went out to Vegas only to be killed with everyone else. There was no epic battle, just an explosion and of course in the book Flagg still lives! Wtf?
Now many years later and after watching the movie many times, I get the ending, it's a sad ending, but I get it in nevertheless. God sent them out there because he wanted his presence to be known in Vegas. When the four left and got out there, they did what God told them to do, so therefore his presence was known to the people of Vegas and they were all destroyed. Again, I don't necessarily like the ending but I get it.
