Why do females under 18 hate this movie?

An overall rating of 3.2 for females under 18 for this movie is a profound gap for this demographic against an otherwise favorable rating for all other groups. I'm not sure I've seen such a huge difference of opinion for any other film.

Does anyone care to speculate as to why young girls seen to dislike this film so much?

reply

Don't know. All I can say is that "females under 18" seem to either love or hate a film here on IMDb. There's nothing in between.

Not that this has anything to do with the OP, but I'm getting really sick of all the "You're female, so you can't understand good movies" comments on imdb.

Sadly though ahrabrows I think in the most part this is true.

Babel 9/10
Trainspotting 8/10
Dark City: Director's Cut 9/10

Seriously, enough already! I'm a woman and watched this when I was under 18 and loved it. If you look at the details, 26% of women under 18 gave the film a 10, only 23% gave it less than a 5.

Because it's not called 'mean girls', doesnt have a boyband doing the score and deals with real life as opposed to fashion, shoes and shopping. There's just a few reasons.

they dislike a lot of good movies. they generally have extremely poor taste.

It's only 35 of them, give it a break, it is ridiculous to use something as unreliable as an IMDB demographic to support sexist views.

They're not sexist views. Grow up.

Probably its the subject matter- a young woman experiences something devastating that just shouldn't happen to her, its terrifying

i'm 16 and loved the movie. to me the movie is just absolutely mind blowing. but i do agree with you all. teenagers nowdays have awful music and movie taste.

The Females Under 18 demographic has very few voters on IMDb. Trolls know this, so they change their information to fit into the demographic (another popular one is Females Over 45). They know their vote will count for more in a category with fewer voters, so they can make their extremely low votes count for more.

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

It's silly that people take the Top 250 so seriously that they feel the need to do that just to keep their favourite movie from falling off.

And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make.

reply

Wow, that's horrible. Good to know. And of course WOMEN get blamed for this.

I'm not female, but I probably would not have liked it when I was eighteen. It's a film for a far more mature audience than for an audience of such young people.

I think two words may hold the key: Film Class. AKA Pearls before swine.

(unless the trolling explanation advanced by 5thhobbit is correct).

The real mystery is that so many teenage boys liked the film.

I used to want to change the world. Now I just want to leave the room with a little dignity.

It's not a difference of opinion, it's a byproduct of the weighted average formula.
