Rank the 3 films

I watched Blue last week and was amazed by it. One of the best films I have seen in a while. Just wondering what you all thought of the rest of the trilogy. If they are half as good as blue I think I will have a new favorite trilogy.

I'm quietly judging you.

reply

I think you hit the nail on the head with "half as good".
They're good, but not as good as Blue IMHO....

"Blue" is the best of the trilogy, easily. However, "Red" is also good, and if
not as stunning, it is constructed quite well. And "White" is the least
interesting, a comedy and light entertainment.

Tomorrow it will rain in Bouville.

reply

I like 'Red' slightly better than 'Blue.' 'White', on the other hand, really is about half as good as the others.

reply

All three are amazing. Blue is my favourite, followed closely by Red and then White. However, I really don't understand this harsh criticism of White ("light entertainment"?????), it's maybe not as beautiful and complex as Blue and Red but it does boast maybe the most powerful scene in the trilogy, on the railroad tracks (you'll know it when you see it). At any rate, excellent stuff, three of my favourite movies of the 90s. Going to be seeing The Double Life of Veronique within the week if all goes well.

You can't spell "Godard" without "God"

Blue, White and then Red.

I first watched Blanc and found it amazing. Then I watched Rouge and found it much, much better. And then I watched Bleu and found it the best.

Bleu-Rouge-Blanc.

reply

personally i liked red the most and blue the least.

reply

I like both Red and Blue (can't decide which one is better)
then White

reply

Personally, I liked Blue, Red, then White.

But in general most people will say Red, Blue, then White.

reply

I also don't understand why people don't like White. I absolutley loved it. The character of Karol Karol was wonderful. And it may not be as serious as Blue, or as philosophical as Red, it is still great. Although I still would say my order is

Red
Blue
White

White gets the low ranking just because it isn't quite as intellectaully facisinating as the others, but, still wonderful, and it is better than most films anyways. Plus the last shot always moves me.

reply

Imdb ranking seems to be Red, Blue, White but my order is

Blue
Red
White

reply

I liked Red the best, then White, then Blue.

However, they're all so great that it's really only for very minor reasons like personal preference that I'm able to rank them like this, and I accept all rankings as perfectly valid.

Arguably the best films ever made...

'Blue' is my favourite, most beloved film of all time; the skill is incredible -- the seamless way in which reality and Julie's reality are intertwined throughout, and the non-emotion versus the emotion in Julie's face... She backs up from reality, withdraws, and focuses in on tiny physical details around her, and this is portrayed flawlessly. Red and White are both excellent films, but Blue excels and gives so much. I don't know how many times I've watched it!!! Favourite part; when the camera zooms in close on the sugarcube soaking up the coffee -- portrays perfectly her focus deliberately withdrawn from the world... This film is the perfect portrait of grief.

reply

So far I've only seen White and Blue.

I first saw White and thought it was amazing. I just saw Blue and was bored to tears. Watching Red next. Hopefully it will be as good (or better) than White.

reply

I liked Red.

reply

Blue, White, and then Red. But the beauty of these films is that you can watch them over and over and discover new things about them and our feelings and order of rankings would continually change.
