I just couldn't get passed the usage of English in this film. I'm a purist in this way, and this aspect just totally irked me. I'd even go as far as to say it ruined the otherwise pretty good movie. The acting was good and the concept was unique and fresh. If only they'd been speaking German it would have recieved an 8 from me and not a 5.

Expecting this movie to be in the German language kind of misses the point of what the movie as about, honestly.
Think about it: filming it in German makes it (obviously) a foreign language film. If you're trying to get your audience to connect and identify with characters, ESPECIALLY if that target audience is younger in age, setting up a language barrier is a dicey thing to do. These guys speaking English makes them more relatable to the youth audience watching the movie. It's not a film about some other people in another country way back when - it gives it a better shot at letting your audience say compare themselves to these kids and put themselves in their shoes.
Making this a foreign language film not only instantly reduces your audience in size, but gears it towards an older audience. Exactly who this film was NOT meant for. Just my take, anyway.

Absolutely agree. The idea that THESE people would be speaking English, especially Americanized English was ridiculous and distracting. I thought it ruined an otherwise good film. I got around it by buying the German dvd, which is dubbed into German and includes English subtitles. Wow, what a difference. It really elevates this to a great movie.
