Better Than 'Basic Instinct'?
I thought Sliver was more entertaining than Basic Instinct. (With the exception to the interrogation scene. What do you guys think?

shareEven though I do love Basic Instinct, I enjoy Sliver more. Maybe it's because I'm a voyeur...
I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO EXCITED! I'M SO...SCARED!!!

I think Basic Instinct is one movie which is very hard to top because even though it was done in the early 90s when you watch it, it seem still modern and it hasn't aged a bit and most probably never will. Most of the actors are of a very high class and every scene has a shocking/surprising/twist element to it which makes the move very hard to top. The clothes the people are wearing, the cars they drive, the clubs they go to.. it's most probably one of the greatest movies ever done.
A masterpiece in my book.
No.

Sliver was not that bad, but Basic Instinct is in a league of its own... Stone vs. Douglas is amazing too watch, and Sharon Stone - in this film - is potentially more *beep* than any other woman who has ever graced the screen (and yes, it's her sexuality that does it). ((I'm not attempting to provoke a discussion on this, although it strikes me now that such a discussion could be quite a lot of fun))
I first saw this movie when I was 15, and I was blown away... Since then I have seen it enough times to think that its quality as a thriller is as high now as it was then... It really hasn't aged. The above comments by bigtoe_2 are right on the money. The sexual innuendo remains spectacular and all the murders, the car chase etc. hit the nail right on the head.
The nudity scenes are a plus, but then again, unlike many other nudity scenes, they really do work incredibly well. They are necessary to portray Catherine's sexuality. And just look at Wayne Knight's face when she does the 'beaver' shot... damn it, that's priceless! :-)
Basic Instinct is one of the few movies that I would give a 10/10. Find me a better thriller - one that has better main and supporting characters, plot etc. - I dare you!

It did work dumbass! MD was hot as hell in that movie. Just because you're a child and incapable of thinking a man older than Zac Efron is hot, please don't kid yourself that anyone thinks your opinions are worth more than a laugh.

"old and gross and creepy" apparently, a large majority of movie fans disagree with you.
shareAbsolutely not.
Basic Instinct is without a doubt one of the best erotic thrillers ever made, as well as one of Sharon's finest films and one of her top performances. Sliver started off pretty well for the first 45 minutes or so, but then slowly turned into some poor, cheesy cable thriller.
The sex scenes were alright, but they crammed them into one drawn out scene and I didn't really buy their relationship. As for the ending? Is that how they really chose to end the movie? I mean...really?
The worst thing about this movie is that you can tell it's a cut and paste job. In other words, so many things were changed around from the original script that the film doesn't feel coherent. It just leaves question upon question and then the credits roll.
And it all started off SO well...

@OP:
Nope. "Basic Instinct" has a larger-than-life quality to it that endures - sure, it's a howler, but there's such a conviction to the film it really is hypnotic to watch. "Sliver" had potential, but, sorry, that ending totally neutralized any merits the film may have had.

I prefer this movie to Basic Instinct.
All of these type of movies are basically pervathons on Sharon Stone. The story itself.. well.. let's just say you don't tune into Sharon Stone movies (or at least those sexy ones in the 90's) for a "good story".
I like Michael Douglas, but yeah.. still prefer this to Basic Instinct. More entertaining is a good way of putting it. Basic Instinct sort of bored me.. but I was young when I saw it, maybe I need to see it again.
The point is I don't need to see Sliver again, I can remember it all very well. even though it was also many years ago.
