I have heard that this is a great romantic film. I didnt see it that way. Oddly enough I found it rather creepy.

So Meg Ryans character falls for a guy she has never met but hears him on a radio show. Basically she becomes obsessed with him even though she is engaged. Normally this is antagonist of the film that does something like this. So she flys down to Seattle just to look at him. She really starts to stalk him. That is not romantic. I actually found that rather creepy and kinda sad. This is basically a stalker film disguised as a romantic comedy. Its like the first draft of the script was meant to be a thriller. Besides even if they do work out together she will probably just leave him for a guy shes sees on Oprah and begin to stalk him as well.

The one thing that I like is when Tom Hanks said that is like Fatal Attraction. He was right on the money.

So you've never googled or looked at the Facebook or Twitter account of someone you'd like to date? Annie couldn't do that because this movie was made before online social networking existed. Granted, it does seem a bit extreme to fly across the country to try and bump into a complete stranger but the point of the movie is that it was her destiny to be with Sam, so you can say that the universe was compelling her to take those measures. Of course in real life it would be weird but this is a fairytale, so suspend your disbelief.

Yeah, her looking him up was understandable. A lot of people would do the same (though they wouldn't admit). But I can't defend her decision to fly across the country and secretly watch a father play with his infant son. That behavior is offensive.

But overall -- I do agree with you that the movie was meant to be a fairytale. The movie's imagery points in that direction (e.g. - the shot of the lights in the U.S.A. map); even the title, "Sleepless in Seattle" kinda points to dreaming and fantasizing. So that would explain all the remarkable coincidences in the movie, which brought them to together.
