Name a better football movie
Go ahead. Do it.
shareI thoroughly enjoyed the Express, and it's my favorite college football movie, but I wouldn't necessarily say it was better, just as good at best
shareAs a Notre Dame parent, not only is Rudy the best sports movie, it's one of our all-time favorites - and there's no better movie to watch on the eve of the new season.
GO IRISH!
I can't believe that God put us on this earth to be ordinary.
Lou Holtz
any given sunday.
I loved Rudy, but i'm more of a fan of the pro game anyway, and even if it got a lot of flack, it gave a great insight into the NFL.

It got a lot of flack because it's for s*** and is horrible as a film about football. One can argue that it's entertaining I guess (to each his own and all that) but as a film about pro football...awful. Ace Ventura is a better football film than AGS!
It wasn't me who was murdered, was it?
Not sure if it's better, but All the Right Moves is an underrated football flick.
shareAlthough I love Rudy. I might have to go with Remember the Titans. Since Rudy is mainly about him, it definitely captures the amazing strength of character it can take to overcome such odds as an individual. The reason why I think Remember the Titans is better (just barely) is only because it captures that experience for an entire team. Of course, the adversity Rudy faces is much different than that of the Titans (i.e. racism), but the principle is still there. Like someone else mentioned, the Express also covers this topic ... and I'm not saying that Remember the Titans was the first (or last) film to cover it ... but, at least for now, it is the best.
Either way, Remember the Titans and Rudy are definitely two of the best sports movies of all time (definitely my top two) and maybe even just two of the best movies of all time, period.

"The Longest Yard" the original.
shareBrian's Song 1971 version
Story about Brian Piccilo and Gayle Sayers
when i was younger I thought The Program was the greatest football movie but now Rudy definitely tops the list.
Now go home and get your *beep* shinebox.
I second that. "Brian's Song" was a great movie. I love the Gayle Sayers speech after Brian became ill. It's a good movie. It's my fave football movie. My biology teacher in high school loved that movie. He would play it every year for his students in biology class, even though it had nothing whatsoever to do with biology. He was a cool teacher. I didn't care much for the updated version of Brian's Song. Why would they even bother remaking it? The remakes are never as good.
Another of my favorite football-based movies is Radio. Another one based on a true story. Those are the best movies. If you don't cry enough during the film, then they actually have to show the real "Radio" at the end and make you cry even more. Yeah, it's another of my faves.
On the subject of All The Right Moves - it was filmed here in our area. Most of it was filmed in Johnstown, but there are two short scenes that were filmed right here in my small town. It was a big deal back then. The movie Slapahot had a small scene fiined here as well. Hey, it's our claim to fame. Gotta be proud of the small things! haha It's not really one of my favorite sports movies, though, to be honest
.
"Good friends, no matter how we find them, are as essential to our lives as Another of my fav
breathing in and out."
Ok then....
North Dallas Forty
The Longest Yard
Heaven Can Wait
Rudy is the best football movie ever made. Friday Night Lights is the 2nd best. That said, Rudy is right up there with The Natural & Field Of Dreams as one of the most classic sports films of all time. The fact that a flick like The Blind Side was nominated for an oscar & Rudy was not, is incredibly disturbing.

Darko, couldn't agree more with you on the Blind Side comment.
Field of Dreams is a great movie. It's my 2nd fave movie of all time. (Shawshank Redemption is my fave.)
Getting back to the main question of football movies - We Are Marshall is a pretty good flick. Saw it again the other night. Not bad at all.
"Good friends, no matter how we find them, are as essential to our lives as breathing in and out."
Yes, Yes and Yes. I love the movie Rudy, but I have to admit that if I was sitting down running through the cable channels, and all four movies were on, Rudy would probably be my last choice among these four. That being said, it is probably the best football movie based on a true story, although the original Brian's Song and Invincible are both right there.
share"North Dallas Forty"
