She is 48 right now.
I loved loved her in Alias....can anyone recommend a good movie of hers?????

Her role in "Ninth Gate", directed by Polanski, allows her sensuality and brilliant acting ability to shine thru in a most unique mode; you'll love it!
shareCasanova!
She's fantastic in that movie..
i love the part with oliver platt at the gala/ball/masqeurade/party/something..
she rocks
i love her so much i've painted her on my wall (that sounds sick but it's actually kinda cool,.. i do that with all actors i like.. such as Aaliyah Haughton, Jason Isaacs, Billy Crudup (and many many more) and Lena.
sorry i'm hyper..
Lisette
We never see enought of her she is fearless in front of the camera and has been wasted in so many films like The Vampire Lestat. I think that Helen Mirren is her only equal in all of film and of Lena's caliber.
Increible women.

There is no doubt that this woman makes any moviescene 20 % better. Ive loved her since seeing the unbeareble lightness of being. She may be 48 - but no woman on screen is as sexy as Lena.
sharewatch her in ninth gate getting it off with johnny depp...very sexy scene. also a nude scene at the end of the film. yes, she's certainly hot.
share[deleted]
She was hot in this film, sadly however, her present looks are less to be desired.

"And unfortunately being a Nordic European they age more quickly and drastically" LOL that's *beep* Where did you hear that from that's just *beep* I think swedish people look better than english people generally and for what reasons do you think they would age faster?
"What's the point of living if you don't have a dick?"
[deleted]
Hate to disappoint you but british people often have paler skin than us here in sweden so do german and I think most people here age in the exact same pace as other people, some faster some slower. My father is 60 but looks like 40 my mother also looks about 10 years younger than she is.

Wow, did she do a job in this movie. Made me forget all about Annabella, whatever her name is....
shareI was 7 when this came out (I haven't seen it since) and either it was playing on TV or my mom had rented it. I remember a scene where Gary Oldman was interrogating her or something, and she spread her knees a little and they started making out. At this point my mom turned it off, but I remember saying something like "Why did she make him do that?" and my mom was like, "Oh, I don't think she was making him do anything." Anyway, I came across a trailer and I was like, "Holy crap, this is the movie!" Just thought I'd share that. It looks good.
share"With or Without The Arm?"
Or soemthing like that. She was awesome in this film. A crazy film, a very crazy film that I dragged some friends to see one night. Let put it like this, it left a vivid impression on all of us.
Jack: "They say you're the big mahof, personally I don't see it." Mona: "Keep watching." Lena Olin is great. I've loved all her movies, especially Romeo Is Bleeding and her work in Alias. Beautiful and talented. She rocks!!!

Lena is still beautiful at age 50. She is a fantastic actress

Oh please -- Lena is downright gorgeous at ANY age!
Gosh I have missed her on Alias and to me this woman gets more gorgeous anytime I manage to catch her in anything!
Personally, I like her in this movie alone. Boy, does she stand out or what! Miss Olin is definitely Mona!!!!:)
Vengence is a living thing
I loved her voice!

Yea, thank goodness for google!
He's handcuffed to the bed - Such a trusting lad! No wait,
that was when she had captured him!
Here's a cute pic of her from Sweden in the '70's, didn't know she had a decent career before moving to Hollywood:

Yes, aren't Swedes supposed to be blonde? But who the hell is complaining - I think she is gorgeous - screw blondes! (kidding, kinda!:)

Well, at least Ms. Olin had undies on! That first scene is so wild - you can tell Jack Grimaldi was 'smitten' as well! ;-)
shareThis lady is one of my favourite actresses, extremely talented, I'd like to see a lot more of her. (Not like that, you cads! Perhaps in another life.)
Yes she is breathtakingly gorgeous, and I feel she is aging beautifully. I fully endorse her fantastic roles in "Romeo.." (of course), "Unbearable Lightness of Being," "Chocolat," "Enemies: a Love Story" and many others. She was the only reason I watched "Alias." She was criminally wasted in "Queen of the Damned," you'd think Lena as a vampire would be too perfect. To have seen her in the far superior "Interview With The Vampire" would have been great, although the only adult female role was Claudia's "adopted mother" I think
Lena Olin is pure class... the best and most talented entity to come out of Stockholm alongside Entombed and Dismember IMO! :)(Can't remember which Swedish city Bergmann is from)
I love your way with words! Yes, Lena is special and is aging gracefully. I saw a fan site where there are pics of her (modeling in Sweden?) in the '70's, before she did her first few movies....I need to see 'chocolat' & 'Unbearable Lightness' soon, don't know why I've missed them so far!
Are you British or from Sweden? You have a nice, descriptive writing style.
;-)
"Lena Olin is pure class... the best and most talented entity to come out of Stockholm alongside Entombed and Dismember" -- What is Entombed & Dismember, Swedish films she was in??
(Not to get it confused with a very bad slasher film called 'I Dismember mama'! Yuck!) Take care, Camilla!
Hi there Flowbeer, thanks for the many kind words! :)
Actually, I'm a South African male! (Camilla Rhodes is the name of the character in "Mulholland Dr.")I do have a very Anglophile mother, so maybe that's an influence.
Leno Olin is fantastic and it's heartening to see respectful fans out there. She is Venus made flesh true, but there's a visible intelligence, charm and talent there.
Ah, I have to explain myself with Entombed and Dismember! You're very kind so I hope I'm not about to frighten you. Along with cinema, music is one of my passions and I like a diverse range of genres, one of the foremost being Metal, and it's most extreme sub-Genre, Death Metal. Sadly, there's this horrible stigma that if you like DM, you have to be a caveman who likes nothing else; this is patently ridiculous but there are lots of snobby people out there.
In the early 90's when death metal had it's birth and was rising, the awesome Entombed from Stockholm released their classic "Left Hand Path" album, which established a distinctive unique style of metal that would be associated with their hometown. The equally good Dismember are their brother band who released an as-good debut "Like An Everflowing Stream."
I remember becoming big fans of theirs back then and thinking: Wow, these bands are so dark, extreme, compelling and talented- it makes total sense, they come from the same birthplace of Lena Olin!!! These are always my fave things to connect with Stockholm, and have enriched my life. Yes I also have metal bands I like linked to Gothenburg, which is the town of one Stellan Skarsgard... that's for another time!
I haven't seen that particular slasher film, and I'll avoid it thanks! I enjoy a good horror film; whatever genre, a wellmade film always shines through.
Again, thanks for taking the time for the positive response. Hope to chat soon, and enjoy more fine work from Lena!
Stay well!!
Hey, thanks for the clarification! Did you see the website with all the Lena photos? There are photos from the 70's to present day:
http://www.lenaolin.net/por/record.jpg
http://www.lenaolin.net/por2/por104.jpg - she is the essence of beauty!
I HAVE heard Entombed, but I guess I don't follow DM as much as others do - I like Slayer and have a couple of their things, but I can imagine Entombed is probably a bit heavier/darker than them! ? I think, as an American, I ('we') prefer English-speaking bands...you know some of those DM bands from say, Brazil? They're saying stuff we do not understand, so maybe we shy away from it? I don't know if those Swedish bands speak English or not in their songs, but I do recall the Scorpions saying their English was so bad, they just said lyrics that were close enough to pass as fluent! "Ya, vee want to party, ya!" etc. Of course, all I ever cared about really were the hot guitar licks!
There were some DM bands from U.S. you may have heard of: Carcass, Morbid Angel, Death Angel; there was one 'grindcore' group from Britain called 'Acid Reign', but they wouldn't measure up to what you described w/ Entombed/Dismember...now I'd like to check out some of their older work!
"Gothenburg, which is the town of one Stellan Skarsgard... that's for another time!" - That is a COOL name for a town - sounds like where 'Goth' was created! Is Stellan related to Paul Skarsgard, the actor?

Hey there, glad to see you I didn't scare you off! I haven't seen the Lena pics yet... sure will, when work isn't so nuts!
Entombed are one of the bands from Sweden who have a good command of the English language, like quite a few from the region, you can tell it's their second language. I met their ex-guitarist Uffe when they came to Cape Town: he was softspoken, friendly and bereft of attitude. A true pleasure to chat to, apparently a trait of all Swedes... well, maybe except Victoria Silvstedt!
Yeah I do like Slayer, their place in metal history is assured; sadly the last quality album they did was in '94 with "Divine Intervention." Like Iron Maiden for heavy metal, Slayer need to realise they may no longer be able to innovate. Unlike Iron Maiden, Slayer seem to be able of playing to their strengths and write entertaining songs.
I enjoy gore grind pioneers Carcass (a fine British institution that recruited an amazing Swedish guitarist in the form of Michael Amott; check out his awesome rock band Spiritual Beggars) but I LOVE MORBID ANGEL! They do seem to need to think about their next album to ensure they don't get stuck in a rut, but there is a good chance that this could happen, as original vocalist/bassist David Vincent has returned to the fold! Very exciting!
A very heavy album that introduced Entombed's trademark Death N Roll sound (brutal deathmetal with a rock sensibility... it makes you wanna smash something and sip a whiskey at the same time) is "Wolverine Blues." I reccomend starting with that; perhaps also try "To Ride, Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth."
Non metal music I love is The Cure, Joy Division, The Smiths, Pixies, Mercury Rev, My Bloody Valentine, Air, Sneaker Pimps, Ryan Adams, Smashing Pumpkins ("Machina" is my favourite album), Johnny Cash, Charlie Parker and many others... just in case you needed to know! ;)
Ok, chat soon!
Not a problem - but you really should check out those Lena links I posted to ya last time - some are from Romeo is Bleeding and are quite wicked and would make great wallpaper or posters!
So, what's Cape Town like? Isn't it kinda wild & violent? I saw a program about those gangs in those prisons in S. Africa and they are lawless lunatics! I guess we all have 'em in every region of the world, eh?
re: the Iron Maiden - yea, they REALLY ran out of ideas in a hurry, the same riffs over & over & over.....and the vocals were a pain in the arse as well! I didn't know Carcass was British, guess I assumed they were American!
"it makes you wanna smash something and sip a whiskey at the same time" - lol, sounds like a plan! If nothing gets broken, it ain't rock & roll!
Thanks for all the info on Entombed & other Swedish bands....I have to ask you this, since I found a used tape recently & listened to the opening song: Yngwie malsteen! Isn't he Swedish too, the 'guitar god'? I've met him before, very arrogant, thinks he's the $hit - and he IS fast but like Maiden, his songs fall flat after one or two. He also has a 70's feel like Ritchie Blackmore's RAINBOW, if you remember them. They had Ronny James Dio on vocals w/ Cozy Powell on drums....classic old school, I like some of that.
I'm into a lot of the groups you mentioned (but that new Billy Corgan solo stuff I saw on late night SUCKED, he used digital drum machines instead of a real back up band! It was lame, imo)....how about Frank Zappa?
Cheers, man!

Hey there- sorry work is nuts so I gotta make it a quick one. If I don't post now and then, never fear, I shall return!
I only managed to watch bits of "Mr. Jones" last night. Lena Olin as my psychiatrist would help me with ANY problems I might have. It's always good to see her play complicated but softer characters... as opposed to the embodiment of evil! (that's good too!) She looked so natural, absolutely lovely.. I was frankly hypnotized. Then I saw Paris Hilton on E Channel and nearly wanted to cry at the world's desire to worship crap. >:(
Haha I see we're gonna have to disagree on Maiden! Yeah Yngwie's a Swede and unfortunately very arrogant. He is very technical and talented, but he tends to show off and comes across as very cold, as opposed as to caring about the feel of actual songs. If you weren't so civilised ;) I'd suggest checking out hypertechnical German death metal wonders Necrophagist, whose blinding guitar shredding and solos at light speed definitely are up Yngwie lovers' alleys...
well, if they have balls.
Y'know Cape Town is my home so I love it. But yes I hate the problems we do have here, especially the violent crime; our politicians have a long way to go in addressing the redistribution of wealth which will help fight this cancer.
Yes our local gangs and prison life (you probably saw Pollsmoor prison) are frightening... but these are international concerns. My best friend in the UK says the chavs, yobs and hooligans in London are, forgive me, scum that have no regard for law and other human beings. And now intolerance and blind dogmatic rage (instead of restrained, angry but focused debate) is currently causing violence across the globe. :( It is so sad.
But CT is the most beautiful of SA's cities!! :) It has nature, culture,a diverse blend of lovely local and international people. If you can visit, you should. Just display vigilance like you would anywhere else.
And No I have no idea what Charlize's home Benoni is like! I understand it's literally in the middle of nowhere. And it's proper to say her surname with a hard T, like "Terr-on."
I'm gonna have to be very busy for the next coupla days so I ain't gonna post for a while; will check in though. But here's something to consider, and you can compile your own. Here's the pantheon of my all time favourite acting ladies, who have a surplus of talent and beauty to spare. (bows down) These women are the epitome of loveliness to me, the mere thought of them makes me sigh and smile happily, feeling lucky that I can admire and respect such talented breathtaking creatures. These daughters of Venus are:
Lena Olin (of course!)
Helen Mirren
Victoria Abril
Marg Helgenberger
Nikki Cox (THE perfect Mary Jane for Spiderman)
Sofia Vergara (good for light comedy)
Laura Harring
Jennifer Connelly (she is so lovely.. but must regain weight!)
Maura Tierney
Beatrice Dalle
Sophie Marceaux
:) I am so sighing dreamily now! Take a bow ladies, you're magnificent! And now your list. Be back in a couple of days.
Stay cool :)
No prob, but the name 'Camilla' throws me off a bit - you should have a guy's name, like 'Yngwie' (Malmsteen)! LOL~
"Hey there- sorry work is nuts so I gotta make it a quick one." - so, what the hell do you do, work in Imports or inmate population? LOL~
"Lena Olin as my psychiatrist would help me with ANY problems I might have." - no way - that's a Dr./patient violation of trust and she could lose her license after that! As much as a Dr. wants to screw a patient, its still illegal-and for good reason!
Comparing Lena Olin to Paris 'Skank' Hilton? No gaddamned contest. I am so sick of these 'new whores' who have money and act like skanks, while the older, more classy actresses get treated like 2nd class citizens and paid less! That bitch Paris "earns" like $200,000 JUST to visit a club for an hour! (supposedly heard this) as if her appearance is gonna PAY for the drinks people buy? Yea right.
"Yeah Yngwie's a Swede and unfortunately very arrogant." - yea , he thinks his $hit doesnt stink! Fat ass turd.
"He is very technical and talented, but he tends to show off and comes across as very cold, as opposed as to caring about the feel of actual songs" - well said, I said 'arrogant, but 'cold' is a better description!
He couldn't care less!
What about Maiden do we disagree on? I loved the title song of 'Wastyed Years', that was the last time I ever gave Maiden a fair shake/listen.....
You know what I've seen, I guess it was an Int'l show on the gangs of South Africa...
[" My best friend in the UK says the chavs, yobs and hooligans in London are, forgive me, scum that have no regard for law and other human beings."] -------can you tell me the diff. of 'chavs, yobs & hooligans'? I'd imagine the UK has its' share of nationalists, IRA, skinheads, punks, mafia, drug dealers, foreigners (and terrorists for extra effect!)...but what about CT? How are the bugs, spiders, scorpions, snakes??? The black mamba seems to scare me the most!
["But CT is the most beautiful of SA's cities!! :) It has nature, culture,a diverse blend of lovely local and international people. If you can visit, you should. Just display vigilance like you would anywhere else.

I know you guys have NATURE, you have Cape buffalo raoming & stomping people - lol!
I'm gonna send this now before my puter seizes up & loses my writing - more later - thanks - f b

"The Film in which you are about to see is an account of a tragedy that befell a group of 5 youths"
Hey there dude just briefly swung by. will deal with the in depth stuff later... say next week? I like confusing people, hence the name "Camilla" Ha!
I work as a research assistant at a non-governmental organisation called IDASA, who specialise in democracy-advocacy work. All my colleagues are like art students... but more grounded and approachable. And yourself; apart from displaying knowledge of fine actresses I mean?
Haven't been stomped by a wildebeest or bitten by a black mamba yet... not too much of those in our urban centres, ha! The most immediate danger is being run over by one of the manyspeeding mini bus taxis.
Yeah Charlize is one of ours.
I don't wanna even get started on the hyped media "beauties" that are pushed in our faces- next time! There are many of them which are simply repellent to me ie. Paris! Here some tips for checking out the dream girls I listed, see 'em!
Helen Mirren - "Caligula," if you can see it unedited; "Mosquito Coast;" "Calendar Girls," which is sentimental but charming; etc.
Victoria Abril- One of the best Spanish acting exports ever! So talented. I love her, has a knack for off beat characters and to me, just stunning. Do check out "Max Mon Amour," "Tie Me Up Tie Me Down," "101 Rekyavik" (love her in this! :) and "No News From God" (also excellent. Not to be mean but Penelope who?!)
Nikki Cox- Mainstream beauty (yes with awesome natural breasts) who sadly has talent reserves that will not be allowed to come through in Hollywood because of her looks; I'll wager everything she gets requires her to wear a tight top. :( Has a vibrant warm personality, which was vitally missing from Dunst's character in Spiderman. She can be seen in such series as "Unhappily Ever After" (superior to "Married With Children), "Nikki" and "Las Vegas."
Sofia Vergara- best export of Columbia since Cocaine. Yes her body is natural. If you haven't seen her voluptous curves in modelling shoots on the net, I'd be surprised. My God. See her in light fare such as "Big Trouble," "Chasing Papi" and erm, "Soul Plane." Possibly scratch the last one except the scenes with her, and thank God you're a man!
Laura Harring- Silly, and this from a Naomi Watts fan! Breakthrough in amazing femme fatale role as Rita/Camilla in "Mullholland Dr." Needs to go with material that can show off her range though.
Maura Tierney- I always want her to get more attention in dramatic pictures, ER doesn't cut it. I'll always remember her as the bright and slightly neurotic Lisa Miller in the hilarious series "NewsRadio." :)
Beatrice Dalle- Tempestuous, unpredictable French actress. See her in "Betty Blue" and "The Blackout" with Matthew Modine, one of my favourite movies! She's great but really wild. She was going to play Bruce Willis' wife in "The Sixth Sense" which would have been great exposure to mainstream audiences, but she was branded as an "undesirable" in The States due to two coke-possession busts while filming "Blackout." As a result she won't be let back into the US. Oops. She was also arrested for roughing up a meter maid. Yeah she's crazy, but I love it. If it's on dvd yet see "Trouble Every Day" with the bonkers Vincent Gallo.
Sophie Marceaux- Yeah French actress who I'd like to see more of; had a brush with the mainstream in "BraveHeart" and "The World Is Not Enough." If she was a bit younger, all my mates and I thought she is one of the few mortals who could play Helen in "Troy;" ultimately it's good she didn't cos that film IMO sucked (apart from Eric Bana). Look on IMDB for her French titles, but do see her in the very fun comedy romp (and yes, it's actually funny AND contains David Spade!) "Lost & Found." It's one of my favourite comedies... and she is simply luminous in it.
Aha, you have excellent taste! :) I actually like a few of the actresses you've listed who are beautiful BUT also talented... I just had to narrow down my personal faves! Here are my thoughts:
Christina Ricci- yes, wonderful childlike prodigy. I would like her to regain some weight, her natural form is lovely.. why sell out and be a skeleton? She's great in "The Opposite of Sex," "Sleepy Hollow," "Miranda" but I can never forget her as the morbidly deadpan Wednesday. Marvellous! :)
Thora Birch- Very talented, Very pretty and as a man I have to say it with the greatest respect, lovely boobs. (With the women we've discussed you can see I like all forms) She was the standout to me in "American Beauty" and incredible in the under-rated "The Hole." Keira Who?! I'll forgive her for being in a Limp Bizkit video. ;)
I want to see her get more substantial roles again; she demolishes most of the so-called talent out there. Cronenberg, Aronofsky et al. call Thora!!
Naomi Watts- Yes someone who always had incredible potential as far back as the charming "Flirting" with her good pal Nicole Kidman. I personally loved her as the nervy Jet Girl in the quite-alright "Tank Girl;" that black hair is so 90's alternative, and she is so cute in it! Yeah I'm grinning! :)
Of course she went through many years of hard struggle till that genius David Lynch (one of my all time favourite directors) saw her potential and cast her in "Mulholland Dr." and she simply Shone. Such range, vulnerability and acting bravery. She was so good natured and keen as Betty (very similar to Kyle Maclachlan's intrepid Jeffrey in the classic "Blue Velvet") and then brilliantly exposes her damaged, darkened depths in her true guise as the spurned Diane. Naomi actually turned me on (and frightened me)the most in the latter make out scene when Camilla breaks it off with her. That potential of threat and danger... you feel on edge but can't look away and are drawn in... in that scene Naomi epitomises the quintessential Lynch cinematic experience. Incredible. Some of her heartbreak scenes are so tender and sad, I'm actually moved to shed tears when I see them. Yes I'll admit that.
And yes good guys do win. Hollywood woke up and recognised old fashioned talent and acting guts; Naomi deserves all her success. I've since liked her great turns "21 Grams" and "I (Heart) Huckabees" the most; she has range for intelligent comedy and quality drama. No I haven't seen her in "King Kong;" the film just had no appeal to me- "The Frighteners" is still my fave Peter Jackson film.:)
I look forward to seeing Naomi shine in future projects. She's special.
Scarlett Johansson- Now we come to an interesting one. Simply she is gorgeous yes. But also talented... but has to be careful it isn't overlooked because of fashion mags and poor-blockbuster choices.
She was a prodigy in "The Horse Whisperer" and yes simply charming as Charlotte in "Lost In Translation," another favourite movie. I'm quite proud that I was waiting for the movie before the hype surplus hit. I've always loved Bill Murray but the main reason I wanted to see the film was the score by musical genius-recluse and leader of the great My Bloody Valentine, Kevin Shields. Of course everything about the film turned about to be fantastic.
She musn't do another "Island" and I couldn't give a rat's ass who she dates: Scarlett nurture your talent. She was good in the fun "In Good Company." and Yes I was in Danish-ancestry Heaven- Scarlett and Marg Helgenberger in the same movie?! The stars were aligned!! :) She's good, no doubt but must make careful choices.
You've got fine taste my man! Will chat next week. Take it easy!
