Well I really liked it, am I the only one?

Ok I am a bit biased here being a massive fan of pretty much all of Oldmans work, but come on this is a good movie isn't it? I too wasnt sure about the Jazz score initially but when I watched it a second time I really couldnt imagine anything else working. The acting was great all round I thought, and I really really loved the ending. I once read in a filmaking book that if a movie has a great ending the audience will be very forgiving even if the rest of the movie was crap. Now I don't think this movie was crap by any means, quite the contary but I must admit that for me at least the ending turned an average movie in to good/great movie. Having said that I am a bit of a sucker for sad endings. Anyways just my thoughts. Anyone think the same?

You had to read that in a book to figure it out? The ends justify the means, cause all that crap can just be tom foolery, making the audience think you have nothing but a bunch of hogwash, when in fact the end comes around, slaps everyone, goes back and pulls up the strings it deep rooted into the plot that were seemingly unrelated and unimportant and ties them all together so brilliantly in one defining moment. It's even better when they provide you with more than enough evidence but they can still trick you anyway. It's the resolution and the climax or a second climax in one.

Romeo is Bleeding was an awesome movie. I just caught it last night at a friend's place when he put it on. The characters of Mona and Jack made this movie too too good. I love that Mona, who's tough enough to take out five FBI agents can't seem to take down Jack on his bad day. Jack sure is an idiot, but you gotta admit, he's gotta be one tough SOB if he can put up with all of her *beep* and still be able to tell someone about it.

I also really liked this movie. My personal favorite of Gary Oldman is his performance as Norman Stansfield, but as Jack Grimaldi, I can think of no equal. Lena Olin scared the crap out of me with that laugh! It was good film noir, good black humor, and a very colorful and well-made movie.

This film was amazing. Gary Oldman was on a high when he made this film. How can you hate Jack Gramaldi?. He was a bumbler, but a good guy. It's probably his best work in my opinion.

Lena Olin I haven't seen since this movie but she was terrifying here. I thought she was the nastiest villan I had seen onscreen in years. She was deliciously evil with no soul.

Juliette Lewis is a hugely underrated actress. This one again shows she not only has range, but comic timing, and a real childlike quality to her.

The music was excellent. I even taped the ending music where Natalie comes back. It is so haunting, and beautiful. I also love a nice unhappy ending, everything isn't always fixable. This film isn't popular but it is excellent.

Like True Romance that came out the same year, it was a powerhouse film because although very violent, it was written, and executed exceptionally well.

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who have seen and liked this odd but very good movie. Gary Oldman was amazing,like always,even if I don't think it's his best performance ever since he was so mesmerizing in "Immortal Beloved" as Ludwig Van Beethoven. In "The Professionnal",also,well I think he simply stole the show as an amphetamines addict crooked cop. But for me,actually,I think he just gave his best performance as Dracula in "Bram Stoker's Dracula". Along with De Niro's Frankenstein, it's the best "monster performance" I have ever seen onscreen, and probably just one of the most mindblowing performance I have ever seen by an actor on film.

As a fan of Gary Oldman, I've gradually come to start appreciating some of his earlier work, such as Meantime, Sid & Nancy and now Romeo is Bleeding. I've just bought this on DVD, and after reading several mixed reviews on it, I can say that this is definately a classic thriller, and in the style of 40's noir as people have said.

The character of Jack Grimaldi is one that I think anyone human being with a pulse can relate to, because the fact is that no one is perfect in this world. Oldman's character represents this, and shows how easy it is to be corrupted in this day and age, and then suffer because of it as he does. It's almost painful to watch him descend into the abiss as his whole life comes crashing down, and you kind of end up rooting for his anti-hero.

A very impressive film, and a sad ending.

It seems ironic with this character of Mr. Oldman's because in this movie the cop is corrupted but then in the recent Batman Begins as Gordon he is a clean cop.

Switches from the dark to the light sides.

Which is one of the reasons why dear old gary is a personal favorite of mine.

Plus, the soundtrack to this movie, rocks without a doubt.

Mark Isham definitely knew what he was doing.....:)

One of my favorite films off all time. I just love a movie where someone's life totally comes apart. I also like movies where there are no "good guys."

No. You most certainly are not. "Romeo Is Bleeding" is one of my all time favourite films. Devastating film noir: great direction by Peter Medak, superb acting by Gary Oldman, Lena Olin, Julliette Lewis and Anabella Sciorra.. the score is unforgettable!
As for the dude above me, I gotta disagree wholeheartedly. I despise the fact that this film fell victim to lazy critics (not yourself of course) at the time that thought any vaguely crime-related flick in th 90s was a "Tarantino wanna-be." Stuff and nonsense.

This film is so underrated. It is atmospheric, looks great, fantastic perforamnces all round, especially from Olin and Schieder, and has a real hard boiled feel to it.

Its one of those films that I cannot undertsand why it was not a hit. Medak the director also made the excellent british film The Krays. Wonder what he is up to.

This is QUITE a movie. Saw it a few times years ago and again recently. What a haunting film! It is different - is there anything else like it? I have been trying to come up with something. It has the feel of a slow paced movie yet SO much is happening. The way they film NYC is very unusual - never could imagine it so ... still.

Was good to see it again - now if only I could stop thinking about it!!! Almost chose to watch The Professional instead but went for this one. I guess that's next ...

One of my all time favorites. I owned this on laserdisc many years ago and waited for a long time for its release on dvd. I thought Gary Oldmans performance was excellent like many others.

I can watch this film again and again and still get the same level of enjoyment from it.

I've seen very Gary Oldman films, but all that I have seen, I have really enjoyed. So, when I found this on DVD for £5 I grabed it. I'm so glad I did. When I watched it for the first time that night, I really enjoyed this film. This really is one of those hidden gems I would recommend.
